So, my doctor recommends i have 69 grams of Protein a day. I started eating pureed foods today and im starting to think ok if i have pureed foods, how am i gonna fit in the Protein Shakes? ? because 65 grams worth of shakes is like 2 meals. Does anyone know of any other ways to have protein? like pills at all???

Your pureed foods should still be mostly Protein and you may not need the shakes. I was able to puree tuna, chicken, cooked eggs, etc. Cottage cheese (fat free) is also a good source of Protein. All that protein counts towards your daily total. In fact, I don't even need Protein Shakes now.

If you puree low protein foods, you may have to add unflavored Protein powder to the blender along with the food. And you can add protein powders to Jello and pudding mixes before preparing.

I am on the last few days of my 2 week mushie period. My first fill is Monday, June 9th. (yeah!) Anyway, here is a sample menu that makes it easy to get the Protein in, but it may take a few days on mushies before you can hold it all:

Protein Max powder mixed with 1 c. skim milk = 32 grams protein

(the chocolate is declicious) I would have this for Breakfast, and you've got half your protein. You can find at GNC stores

Lunch: 1 can tuna or chicken pureed with non-fat mayo = 30 grams protein. Also can add some vegies pureed

Then dinner, you can have cottage cheese, with fruit.< /p>

I still have to work at getting my fruit and veggies and dairy in, but that shake really helps with protein. Good luck - you can do it!

You can subtract the Protein from your puree meals from your daily requirement. I am on puree right now post-op and yesterday I got my required 60gms of Protein from puree egg salad (2 eggs=14gm of protein), puree tuna (you can read the label but for me the can I used had 28gms of protein) and puree ricotta (12gms of protein per 1/2 cup). The food left me just a little short of my goal but I was not hungry so I used some liquid Protein to make up the difference. I am not trying to tell you what to eat but just giving you an example.

Does this make sense?

When I was on mushies, I was so surprised that pureed food - though it looks disgusting, actually tastes pretty good! Especially after a few days of clear liquids! Go for it!

I still use Protein shakes some days because it's a quick and easy way to get adequate Protein when you are away from home, at work, etc., when you don't want to mess with homemade pureed food.< /p>

These mushies remind me of a friend who had all his teeth pulled due to bad teeth and cancer....they thought it might help. He had to go through Thanksgiving without teeth. He had a turkey and gravy glass a mashed potatoes and gravy glass and a stuffing and you got it gravy glass although it looked horrible he said it tasted great. I would guess in general after you haven't "eaten" in a while food will taste good.

I have grown quite fond of my puree concoctions! I am all about taste so I use things like low fat Salad Dressing to moisten the tuna which gives it a great flavor. I had surgery on 5/28/2008 and can tell that after about a week liquids wash right through but the puree "sticks" for a while. I am very careful about waiting to drink after a meal and that helps also.

I dont think you can get it in in the early days to be honest. My DH was banded Friday, he can barely get down half an Optifast shake and it takes him like 45 minutes.

You need more than just Protein, sure he could work all day at 3 shakes and get in 60 g of Protein (which is probably still short for a 6ft 2, 260lb man), but then he wont have had is V8, or his orange juice etc and your fruit and veg intake is importan too.

Just getting through what you can and trying to have bit of everything in those first two weeks is good enough, your body has plenty of stores and you are not going to become malnourished. The risks of pushing in shakes you dont want and cant fit is greater!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
