Sad when "cheating" is grilled chicken!

Recommended Posts

LOL..... Yolur husband seems cool....

Yeah, he is. He has been very supportive too.

Today was & will continue to be my biggest challenge so far. We went for lunch at a Teriyaki place. My husband & I were thinking I could have egg drop Soup. However, they don't serve it there. So I had the broth from a cup of Miso soup & a Water. He had Mongolian Beef & my kids had Teriyaki chicken & Pot Stickers!!!! I was so good, I didn't even have a taste of it.

In a couple of hours we are going to a Graduation BBQ party for a friends son. Ugghhhhhh......... It will be a challenge but I am sure I can do it.

I am finally scheduled for surgery on 6/17 and my doc does the 2 shakes , one frozen meal thing. I started two days eariler than reccomended but I have cheated every day. Mostly I just have extra protien - very low fat lunch meat or an extra shake. I logged on today to get some inspiration to stop this cheating and have at least 7 days on track. But it is hard for me to do this diet, I mean this is even less calories than standard medifast!

Here is my other funny/sad story. My doc reccomends South Beach rozen Entrees for my meal ( boy do they taste delicious compared to shakes) and when I went to our local Kroger to get some last night, I discovered they did not carry them, I was just about in tears in the frozen foods isle. I ate some grilled chicken and another shake instead. Pretty funny when you are that torn up over a crappy frozen dinner!!!!

Try your best to keep eating on your Dr's orders. Our surgery is the same day, just around the corner. 8 days & a wake up, (as my hubby would always say in the NAVY).

I still haven't had that grilled chicken, though I have wanted it badly. I suppose the only way I have "cheated" was I didn't strain my egg drop Soup for two days. So I got the egg peices, a few corn kernals & a few little tiny, tiny peices of ground chicken.

I only lost a pound yesterday to today so I am not sure it was worth it. However I didn't drink enough Water either.

I have only been consuming between 475-650 calories a day. I can only drink so many calories!!!

I wish you well for the rest of this week. You can do it!!!! :tongue2:

I agree.... be strong; DO NOT CHEAT! WALK AWAY! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!

Saw my surgeon yesterday and he said I had to start liquids that very moment rather than next Monday.... my liver is fatty (hehehe, if that was the only thing). His Nurse practioner said that I shouldn't eat another solid piece of anything; now I have to go in for a weight check for the next two weeks (30 miles from home x 4.29 a gallon)....

Surgeon said he would bump back my surgery if I didn't lose weight by next week; and my blood sugars weren't in the 90 range... he wasn't happy...

Had other appointments yesterday for pulmonary clearance... I have an enlarged heart, now need to have a CT of heart before the pulmonologist will clear me.

Have to leave for a upper GI in a few minutes, to make sure my eshophagus / stomach are clear;

Got 9 prescriptions from surgeon to take pre-surgery.

I broke down crying too ... I can't remember what food that I have eatten in the past 40 years that tasted sooooo goooood that it was worth the health crisis I have evolved into....

food and me are no longer friends! I have ended the relationship as it has existed previously at 12 midnight on 6/12

My partner is being banded on the 23rd, and she's a teacher, too. I know she was hoping that she could be banded earlier this month, before school let out yesterday, but I'm glad she didn't. It's just too hard, all those end of the year treats and lunches.

I have a sense that a lot of bandsters are also the cooks in the house, yes? Maybe your spouse/SO can take over that chore during the liquid diet phase to help you stick to your diet. What a wonderful gift that would be.

I've already told my partner that if she wants me to throw out or give away any foods in the fridge or pantry because she might want them, or if she wants me to eat elsewhere so she doesn't have to smell or see it, all she has to do is ask. I know it's hard, and I don't want her to be miserable. Maybe I can eat things she doesn't really care for but I like, like salads, that don't smell too savory. I'm going to see what happens if I eat my main meal during lunch time (at least on the weekdays) to avoid lots of cooking at night during this pre-op phase. It's only a few days.

That kind of support is so great to hear about. I have no clue how i'm going to do the whole liquid diet part but i'll figure it out. I'm a full time nanny so i've got kids who eat anything and everything all day long and then a husband who's a to die for cook. Goodness this is going to be an exercise in will power.

Regarding what to do in the liquid phase: Well, my partner is in day 2 now of her liquid diet, and here's what we're doing today: She had a Migraine yesterday, I think because she had both of her Protein shakes early in the day and then didn't have anything with any real Protein by dinner time, so we switched it today to Protein shake in morning and evening with Soup for lunch, and she's doing better.

The good thing for you about being a nanny is that you probably have access to a fridge and an electrical outlet. We've got one of those "mini-blenders" to make up the shakes which are quite portable. Of course, everybody's doctor seems to do it differently, but there are loads of people on the list who have suggestions. My partner and I are taking it one day at a time, making adjustments as needed.

If your husband is a "to die for" cook, maybe he will enjoy the challenge of helping you through the process. I love to cook, but I'm not sure how much I'm going to be able to help in the pre-op diet and the first week of Clear liquids, but come "mushy time," I've got all sorts of ideas for delicious and low-fat/low-calorie things for her to enjoy that will actually be nice if blended. I'm going to be making a number of Middle-Eastern dishes like foul and megadara which are bean/lentil based, and other ethnic dishes which are soft but tasty.

He's been looking into different Soup ideas for me and also ways to get me to eat a Protein Shake. Its funny though because some of the guys in his unit (he's active army) are teasing him that they'll bring him real food once the diet kicks in. He's being great about this and is looking at it as a tool to help both of us instead of him being punished. Any good suggestions on Protein Shakes? ? I've tried several and they all taste just horrible.

Hi, Paganndamaged,

My partner likes the Spirutein soy-based shakes. You can find them at most health food stores. There are only two completely sugar-free flavors - vanilla and chocolate - and she adds Splenda to taste. She also is allowing herself the Cappucino flavor. It does have sugar but only about 20 calories more than the unsweetened ones. She can't do the regular whey-based shakes as they give her a Migraine. She is doubling the amount of soymilk to Protein powder ratio because it is just too gooey otherwise. I've tried them, and they're quite drinkable. Just make sure you account for the additional calories included by the extra soymilk (she has to aim for 800 calories a day).

P.S. I'd be curious to know more about your user name. You're welcome to e-mail me off list if you like. Merry meet!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
