LV NICE JOB! You are so going to make your challenge! I ran a 5K this morning and then went for another short run with DH tonight. The 5K this morning was up a volcano. Nope...not kidding. I am going to post a picture of it tomorrow on my blog. The addy for it is in my signature if you haven't visited it. There is some deep stuff there...along with the pictures of my hideous belly!

Well, I decided to push myself to run today. I am such a dork! hahah I hop on the treadmill and I start going. Just a slow jog. I go for awhile, then walk a bit then back to the jog. I'm done with a mile before I know it. Then I realize I am completely nauseated. I get off and start walking around a bit and my chest starts hurting. What in the world was I thinking?!?!? While I am impressed that I can actually run that much I could kick myself for pushing that hard. I'm not a runner! I am a wanna be runner. So, I guess I need to take it a little slower.

As for the goals I made for the month... hmmm it is highly unlikey I am going to achieve them. I have 315 minutes out of 600 cardio and 4/8 strength training. I'm not giving up yet, but I doubt I'll make it....

Hey sometimes we have to push ourselves to see what we can do. Now you know that you can't quite do that much. But don't give up and don't cut way back. What was the longest that you ran at one time?? What I did when I first started was to figure out how far I could run at one time and then keep increasing that my .25 miles each week. I would run/walk 3-4 times per week which was just enough to get my legs adjusted to that distance. Then the next week I would go up. The second day was always the worst. The first time you try a new distance you have the adrenaline of trying to make it that helps you out. That is why I have never done the full half-marathon distance. I am waiting for that on the day of the race, because I know it will help motivate and push me to finish. Also...did you drink before you started running? The nausea and chest pain makes it sound like you were dehydrated. People say not to eat or drink before running, but if you go to races (5K's/marathons) you will see all the serious runners eating something small and drinking before any run. Race days and long run days are the only time I break the no eating/drinking together rule. I have to be able to do that or I won't make it.

I have been terrible at updating. Since running the volcano I did another 10 mile run on Thursday in which I was then sidelined for 2 days with tendonitis in my left achilles tendon. So I took Friday and Saturday off and didn't run at all. In fact...I didn't do anything. This morning I went and did 3.75 miles and it felt alright. I am not sure what I am going to be doing the rest of the week. I am just going to wing it. I have to make sure that this tendon is not going to cause me problems halfway through the half-marathon. I figure I can run through pain for about 5 miles, so I just have to make it 8 miles without pain.

No exercise yesterday...I am still babying my left leg. I am going to try and run a mile today and then walk a few more. I want to keep my legs moving but I don't want to push the leg too hard. 48 hours from now I will be in the middle of my half-marathon!

3.5 miles today

my blisters are almost gone...thank god! they were a little bit bigger than quarters...one on each of the bottoms of my heels. now they just looked bruised and are a little bit tender but not too bad.

the tops of my thighs are killing me...i'm not sure what to do about that??

good luck on your run!! that is VERY exciting! at this point i can't fathom the idea!! i can't even run a mile yet without stopping...i'll get there though.

I finished it in an unofficial 2:41:11 according to my i-pod. Race results have not been posted yet. I will update as soon as I have.

The run did not go as I had planned. I was not able to run the entire thing due to a MAJOR injury at mile 8. My leg is quite swollen...but I pushed through the pain as much as I could and slow jogged as much as possible. The achilles tendon is very sore and yes...I shed tears on the course from the pain. I also ALMOST threw up from the pain. The couse was AWFUL. I don't know how you get a circular course to be almost all uphill... but they did. We also started late and the last 5 miles are in the open...no shade and it was 89 degrees by the time I finished. However, I am still thrilled with my results. My ultimate goal was to be under 2:30...but that was pretty farfetched. Had I not had an injury...I would have easily made it. For the first 8 miles I was averaging a 10:33 min/mile. I would have EASILY been in under the time. However, even with walking part and the injury...I still made it in under my reasonable goal of 2:45. As I said before...I don't have the official results yet and I forgot to turn off my ipod so the time should be more like 2:40 something.

I am VERY pleased with the run. I was afraid that I would be disappointed in myself...but I am not...This is an AMAZING accomplishment. I am so proud of myself. I have not only overcome 105 extra pounds, but if you could feel the pain that I experienced through most of this run...you would understand why I couldnt' run the entire thing. The pain in my leg was so severe that at one point the aid station people suggested that they call a medic. Since my leg was not discolored or bruised I figured that the tendon had not torn and I was going to finish. I walked/limped as fast as I could and did run the last mile. That takes determination and guts.

I did it...I did it...I did it!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
