Exercise and losing restriction?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I decided to ask those of you who are exercising this question. I was banded on 1/4/08 and had my third fill 5/8 (total 5.5cc). I began exercising with some regularity about a week before my last fill and noticed that I was a little tight when eating after working out (not uncomfortable mind you, just knowing I actually had a band in there). Right after my last fill I began the Couch to 5K program. I have lost four pounds since my last fill since beginning the program, however, I rarely feel restriction at all now. It comes and goes, but more often than not I don't have any. I still try to keep to my allotted amount of food, however, I do not feel if I have any restriction at all. I will say that I am not as hungry as I was prior to beginning to exercise.

Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be that I just need another fill, or does exercising consistently affect the way the band fits?

TIA for your thoughts. Good luck to everyone on their exercise endeavors!

M:wink2:

As you exercise and lose fat, you will also lose fat around your stomach. As this happens, the band will loosen up. Thus another reason for regular fills. It's normal and sounds like you are doing FANTASTIC. Keep going.

I agree with Aubrie. The band is a little fickle and needs babysitting. Go by the amount of food you can eat and the feeling of restriction that you have or don't have.

You probably need a fill, the only way exercise will make you lose restriction is by fat loss, which is a GOOD thing!

Thanks to you all for your replies. I figured that was it, but because I am losing and gaining the same pound I wasn't quite sure what was going on. My next fill is 6/26 and I can not WAIT until that happens. In the meantime, I am still jogging and trying to get a handle on what to eat---sometimes its challenging with two children and a husband(although he is super supportive in every way he doesn't seem to get the don't bring junk in the house because I don't always have the will power to say no to Pringles)!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
