Just banded this morning...Doing Great so far!

Recommended Posts

Hi, just read your post about peeing problems. I was banded yesterday, did very well. Surgery was at 8:45am and I was home by 2pm. I was very nervous going into this, but now that it's over I am amazed at how easy it was. Just a little pain, but mostly just gas bothering me today. I too have had the same problems you mention about peeing. Today I noticed that they put a Transderm Scopalamine patch behind my right ear for nausea. I vaguely remember them doing that but forgot all about it until I was brushing my hair today. One of the side effects of the patch is that it can make it difficult to urinate. I was very relieved to find the cause, and according to my post op directions I can take it off on Sunday. You may want to check behind your ears!!! Good luck to all of us!!!

My pre-op nurse said that the combination of anesthesia during surgery and the post-op pain meds can make it hard to pee afterward. She suggested running Water, sitting in warm water, or whatever it takes. She said if worse comes to worse I could go to the ER and get a catheter. I told her if it was a problem, I would find a way to go!

I'm glad you didn't have much pain. I was banded in Mexicali, Mexico on May 27 @ 9AM. I woke up with pain & was knocked out for the most of the day. I woke up Wednesday and by the afternoon felt well enough to walk and left the hospital to drive back to San Diego - then caught a flight the next day for home - in Oklahoma.

I couldn't sleep and had gas pain the second night, but I didn't have much pain medicine.

I'm not allowed EAS shakes yet. I"m on a clear liquid diet for day 1-5, a modified liquid from 6--10, then another 10 days of creamy liquid Soups & Protein drinks until I can start a soft food diet.

This was really had because I came back to Oklahoma and went straight to my grandmother's funeral. She passed away two days into my wls trip. The family & food together was an emotional trigger & I wanted to eat, but just sipped my tea.

I'm finally back home & I'm doing well. Hope you do well from here out. Your ticker numbers look like mine.

~Good luck

Cara

I had a patch for naseau too! They gave it to me for the night before surgery...then I got a new one 3 days later..I just took it off. I was only nauseated sp? once...as the first patch wore off...

I peed ok but it was a strain at first...no problems now...day 4 and just a bit sore at the port...Kinda like a burning feeling if I move wrong.

I started soft foods today! I did Clear liquids until then...I thought it was weird how soon but I followed drs. orders and ate!

Good Luck

:thumbup:I was banded by Dr. Rod on Thurs. and was released from the hospital this am @ 8am...I could have gone home lastnight had we not had the 4 hr drive in front of us...so we chose to stay the night and not push the subject. :drool:I have to say that I have been hungry...and actually had some very thin potatoe Soup if you could call it that. Boiled some potatoes in Water with bullion cubes and then just blended it with 2% milk until it was thin and soupy...and ate that for dinner...ohhhhh boy was that the best potatoe soup I have ever in my life had:tt1:....about 2 -3 tblsp full...I asked my facilitator if it was okay and she statted that as long as it was full liquid that I would be okay. I have to say that going to Mexico wasn't bad for anyone thinking about it. Just research your Dr. and don't leave a stone unturned. I will say that if you are someone that wants a lot of after care and hands on care Mexico isn't for you....and what I mean by that is that they don't wake you up at all hours of the night to check your vitals, but the moment you call they are in there in a matter of seconds. The floor I was on only had about 15 patient rooms with about 2 nurses and 2 aids..but there was never more then 6 ppl on the floor while I was there...The thermometers are the mercury ones...old school under the arm, all dinner ware is in glass and metal...and they don't have shaved ice, but get you ice in cubes...The hospital itself was very clean and my experience was good. Dr. Rod. is very much to the point comes in and looks you over, asks you if you have any questions and is out like a flas to his next patient...but I think if I had asked questions he would have stayed...He told me numerous times if I had problems to call and gave me their numbers...I even had their ext. in the hospital for the people that I needed. Dr. Calderon was a hoot. He spoke very good english and was the primary one that would explain things to me. All in all I would go back. I would recommend taking a small personal fan with you as the shades on our windows didn't block the sun out and during the day it would get warm..and I would recommend bringing plastic cups of styrofoam...I didn't like drinking out of the glasses...just my own quirk...felt like the ice would melt to fast. At any rate I am home and doing good and feeling better..esp. after that potatoe soup...woo hooo. Can't believe I am finally banded...seems like a dream.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
