Activity restriction after fill?

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for my first fill next Wednesday. I am curious to know if my activity will be restricted for a couple days after my fill or not?

I am due to start working with a personal trainer the day of my fill. I forgot to ask my surgeon about the activity level post fill. I know that my foods will be liquid or mushy for at least a day but I wasn't sure about working out.

Thanks for your help!

SOOOO looking forward to have a little help from my band! :rolleyes2:

I had my first fill on April 16 and I had wasn't even the least bit uncomfortable. I didn't have any restriction put on me about working out. I did have liquid diet for a day, then mushies for a day, but nothing on activity. Good luck on the fill!

There is no restriction on activity at all. It had no affect on working out, which I do religiously on a daily basis.

I have never heard of any restrictions on activity after a fill - BUT my doctor requires Clear Liquids for three days after a fill so I usually cancel my trainer during that time - it is just too strenuous a workout with only clear liquids. (and I will admit that I usually now only do the clear liquids for one day, then do soft foods for two, so I have eggs or oatmeal before working out and do fine) I just wouldn't suggest working out with a trainer (especially for the first time) if your food intake is severely limited like that.

all the best willowcrown w/your trainer!!! mine has essentially become a member of our family training both hubby & myself:)

i would call your surgeon to be on the safe side of how soon to be active with weights. mine had a 6 wk window - but i was a slow healer & he didn't want me lifting heavy weights (over 10lb) till after 8 wks post.

on a side of caution - just verify what he/she's best recommendation for you is.

as mentioned by kbinaz - you typically have a "liquid or soft" diet after a fill & nutrition is important when working out hard. i just had a slight unfill because i wasn't getting enough calories / food in to sustain my workouts & when i was going for regular fills; i scheduled my training sessions 3 days afterwards - till i was able to get solid Protein down.

regular cardio - not an issue during this time however~~

all the best!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
