short of breath... normal?

Recommended Posts

ok question.

i am 6 days out and people have been telling me i should be walking and all that.. but i have been mostly able to go from bed to living room to bed and thats it... but today i had to go to kinkos... i felt ok this morning.

i started having pain in the car... BAD pain.... pretty sure its gas... cuz id burp and be ok.. then it felt like hunger pain only 20 times worse... so i am not sure what it is.. havent had my swig of tylenol all day at this point either...

got to kinkos.. walked in.. puttered around the fax machine a bit.. started to sweat... alot... then short of breath.... drove home nervous and huffing..

now here it is 2 hours later and i am so out of breath that my speech is impaired and im starting to cough.. i called the docs office and the girl said it was from anesthesia... ?? ... 6 days out?

is that right? she said not to worry and i am probably doing too much... but.. walking from the car to stand by a fax machine in kinkos shouldnt cause that.. in fact, getting my clothes on kinda put me out of breath before i even left....

anybody have any ideas?

The strong hungar pains are definately gas. But I am concerned about the coughing and shortness of breath. After surgery you are more at risk for getting blood clots in your legs. If a blood clot goes from you legs to the lungs(pulmonary embolism) it causes SOB, Dizziness and Coughing. So Please try to go to the ER if you still have these symtoms. If your surgeon wont see you go to the ER. Did you wear TED hose after your surgery?

Ted hose are put on your legs to force the blood out of the veins and improve circulation to decrease your risk of a clot in legs. I had to wear them for 10 days when I slept and I was given 5 days worth of Lovenox injections as well.

Im not sure..but I had the same thing. The first week or so after surgery, it was tough to breathe normally. I wasnt sure if it was my asthema acting up from something they used, or if it was the fact that my stomach was so sore, and I was used to breathing in using my diaphragm. (sp?) Not sure..

The hose, are those white things they put on your legs before surgery that look like thigh highs..I only used them for the surgery, and the day after. O.o

I would suggest going to the doctor. Just in case. Let us know what happends though!

I hope everything comes out ok.

Sounds very similar to what I went through. I had really bad pains, even in my shoulders. It seemed to take a couple of weeks before I felt like I could breath correctly again. It was all really creepy.

because you diaphram has been man-handled, it is brused and out of sorts. It will keep you from being able to get a comfortable deep breath for several days.

If you are having difficulty breathing to the point of it interfearing with your speach, you need to have that checked out ASAP. Asthma is a life-threatening condition. If you are sounding like that kid from "Malcom in the Middle", it is time to go to the ER!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
