Gonna break down and get an UNfill...

Hi Terri..

I'm so glad you have this thread on here. I'm in DIRE straits here with my band. It is wayyyy too tight!! The first week or so it seemed perfect, just about tight enough and hen I don;t know what happened but first Breakfast became a problem, and I'm only talkin smoothies or oatmeal here.. but they were becoming impossible, so Breakfast urned into Teas & coffee or slimfast drinks.

That, I could handle, Then lunch became a problem, and all I was having was Soups or some light seafood..I managed on just Soups and was ok as i was usually having Pasta & sauce or something light for dinner. But when lunch became liquid and then dinner became Soup I started to wonder what the hell is happening here?

I haven't eaten bread or Meat/chicken since my last fill, and now as you pointed out terri, I am not able for fish veg even Water hurts now... Sometimes my own saliva causes me to be very worried...

thank God My symptoms are matching the descriptions on this thread as I know now that it's just tightness I'm dealing with. I thought I was ruptured or something seeing as this tightness was progressive!!

I have an unfill scheduled now for the 3rd June, which is a long weekend away from now and I just hope to God I can at least get by on fluids until then..and please please let this unfill be just enough to hit my sweet spot and not open me enough to hinder my efforts.

to end on a high note.. my much longed for and awaited Goldendoodle Pup "TED" will be arriving to me on June 9th..I can't wait!!! My walking companion & new friend...Ah!!!!:biggrin::w00t:

i LUV this thread! thanks terri.

i am SO hungry to eat a meal. a full well balanced meal!!!

i was at 8.5cc's in a 10cc band till last wk and had .5 taken out. since my last fill in mid march all of a sudden i got tighter, and tighter - i can't get enough calories in to workout properly. i hate drinking (protein shakes) my meals and have refused to go to the "soft side" for fear of what "could" happen. it's left me not able to eat a hot meal for well over a month; and it takes almost an hr to eat the smallest of hard Protein meals.

well the unfill wasn't enough - i'm going in tomorrow to get more taken out. i just feel lethargic & not nurished properly. i typically work out 5-6 days a wk, and i've only been twice this wk & not much effort put in - cause i got not much in me.

this sweet spot chase is such a cat & mouse game - so much so that when i got there i didn't like it much.

i'm hoping tomorrow night i can have a GREAT hot meal for a change!

Lunasa - yep it sure sounds like you need an unfill! PBing liquids is a sure sign! Glad to see you posting!

Luluc - Why don't you go back to a post-op mushy diet just until your unfill?? Refried beads w/ cheese & salsa, cottage cheese, Soups? One thing I do when I'm really feeling the need for some proteiin is to pound some chick breast really thin, cook it, then DICE it real tiny....I add it to soups, mostly. If DH is ordering chiinese I get a cup of hot & sour Soup and add that chicken and some carrots, peas and Water chestnuts (all chopped fine) to my soup. It usually does the trick quite nicely.

Has anyone else experienced real restriction a week from their 3rd fill or at 5cc's of Fluid? I have one of the smaller bands and wasn't sure if this was normal.

I tried to have lebanese food tonight, falafel, hummus and egg salad earlier, everything got stuck. That hurts too, I never thought about what "not being able" to eat a food would actually feel like physically.

Any thoughts? I'm so glad to talk to others going thru the same stuff. I always tell anyone in the waiting area at the dr.'s office about this site

You're one week out from your fill? My suggestion is to stay with Soups and mushies for another week...then proceed slowly with foods you've heard might be trouble. I can't eat eggs in any form whatsoever, for example. Eat a couple of bites then WAIT. If it goes down ok, then take another and WAIT again. Every time you get a fill it's a whole new ball game.

had some potato soup last night and it was decadent to EAT & not get stuck!!! hope todays' unfill will do the trick. i had been reluctant to go back to the mushie stage for fear of staying there; not dealing w/the need to really get an unfil. the small one last wk didn't see to have helped - so i was able to get in today for another tweek.

fingers crossed.

Terri, I finally called and scheduled an unfill for this Saturday. I just hope that I can hang in there that long. Today I can't even get liquids to go down. Last night I was able to eat a piece of cheese. I am not hungry at all, but am afraid of getting dehydrated. Sipped on warm tea this morning and it came up. Does anyone have any suggestions to get me through the next 4 days?

Call your doctor right now ... spitting up warm tea is not acceptable at all.

You sound exactly like me 1 week ago. I was PBing just about everything..even tea and yogurt. cheese was about the only thing that would go down ok and stay down. I went in a couple of days ago for a slight unfill (they took out 1cc) and I feel SO much better.

I had to wait several days like you to go in for my unfill (not because of the doctor's office but because of the weekend and my schedule). Meanwhile I just took verrrrry tiny sips and not too close between or it came back up and I ate tiny bits of cheese here and there and sipped on Protein drinks the best I could. Those came back up too at times. I was pretty dehydrated by the time I got my unfill. You don't want to let yourself get that way. If there's any way you can get in sooner, you should.

Well, called my doctor here in town and she saw me right away. To make a long story short.... Ended up in the hospital to get rehydrated and the radiologist took out 1 cc using flouro. Can't wait to see how much all of this is going to cost! But after he took out that 1 cc, instant relief! Feeling much better today. Staying on liquids for a day and then mushies for a day. I hate it that it came to this, but my advice to anyone out there that can't keep down liquids "DON'T WAIT"!

When I was in a similar situation after an overfill the on-call surgeon met me at the office after midnight and told me that if you're vomiting liquids or your own saliva you shouldn't let it go on past 2 hours. I waited 10 hours before I called. brandyII

Scary stuff but so glad you're ok! Just think how bad it would have gotten by Saturday!?!

Thank you all so much for your posts. I appreciate reading and learning what is happening to others.... I had my 3rd fill 3 days ago (5.5 total in a 10cc band), and am way too tight...PB'ing during every meal that I DON"T CHEW CHEW CHEW, or take VERY small bites. Wow, what a difference a .5 fill makes.

I have to learn to remember and plan Snacks between meals, so I am not too hungry at a meal and take too big of a bite in the beginning... that is what does me in...Even drinking my Protein milk shakes takes much longer... I can only sip and not gulp!!! My kids have always teased me(previously) that I eat too big of portions on my fork and gulp my drinks....now I understand what they are saying.

I want to give my body a chance to settle down... I don't want to go for an unfill yet.... I have resorted to taking a little plastic bag and many napkins with me at a meal, in case, I don't make it to the bathroom... Last night the ouside door of the restaurant was closer than the bathroom, so i took my little bag, hid myself from anyone in the street, PB'd, felt a whole lot better and sat while my husband finished dinner.... what a way to live!!!! My little secret is that I am LOVING eating less!!!!

Had my surgery 3/20/08, lost 17 pounds; 2 pounds to go to break 200!!!!

Well, I FINALLY went in for the unfill and they took out 0.5cc. I went from the dr's office straight to a vacation with friends and I cannot tell you what a relief it was to be able to eat ANYTHING I wanted! Salad! Grilled chicken! Corn! Steak! Cantaloupe! Sandwiches! It may end up that this is "too loose" now....but I needed a break from this band more than I realized!

I'm gonna eat salads for a week solid! I missed them so much! Yea!!!!

terri - i LOVE my unfill. i too am a bit "Loose", however i needed to eat & ironically the scale is going down w/the more i put in.:tongue2:

my dr took out 1.3cc over 2 unfills and i probably need .5 back in to put me just where i need to be. i'm going to hang here another 3 wks though, as i have my wisdom teeth due to come out next wk & my surgeon thought it best me hang at this level till after that recovery.....

enjoy the salads!!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
