Multiple problems

Recommended Posts

My mother (70) had this surgery last October and seemed to be doing well. However, in the past three months, she has been in and out of six hospitals with fluid around the heart and lungs (causing breathing difficulty), enlarged lymph nodes and racing heart at times. Fluid gets drained but continues to build up. Multiple tests/xrays done but doctors are stumped. The only thing that makes sense is that it could be related to her LB (the only thing that is new). She has not seen her LB doctor since all this started but he was aware of one admission and ordered a test to check for leakage in esophagus, stomach. No problem there. Anyone out there heard of these types of problems after LB?

I am sorry to hear of your mothers troubles but it sounds exactly like a guy that we had at my work... he kept having to go in and have chest tubes to have Fluid taken off his lungs... he has been to 2 different "renound teaching" hospitals and even had the (sp) angioplastey (balloon up to heart) and they can find NOTHING wrong.. other then taking liters of Fluid off of him at a time... it is serious enough to where he can not be off of oxygen and had to go on disability... and he has had no kind of WLS....

I hope for both him and ur mom that some one somewhere can figure something out just sounds exactly alike to me.

Thank you for your reply. This guy does sound like he's dealing with the same mysterious illness or ailment, poor guy. I'm a newbie to this forum. What is WLS?

Thanks everyone for your support and suggestions. Mom's condition remains a mystery. We hoped that tests of the Fluid around the lung and lung tissue samples would provide some clues. The good news is no cancer or other problems they could find. The bad news is we still don't know what is causing these problems with her heart rhythm (racing) and fluid building up on heart, lungs. She got a procedure which will keep the fluid from building up in lungs but where will it go now? The abdomen. I've warned Mom to watch for fast weight gain - if more than 2 lbs. a day, she should call her doctor. I will contact Dr C (whoever that is) and pose my questions to him. I posted this message in the Post Op Problems section of the Forum with the same message. MORAL OF MY STORY: PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR BODY AND CALL THE DOCTOR IF YOU START FEELING HEAVINESS IN YOUR CHEST OR YOUR HEART STARTS RACING. If Mom "toughed it out", she would be dead by now. (I apologize for being so morbid.)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
