Recommended Posts

I am proud of everyone. I have lost over 39 pounds. I was banded on july 1. It has been easier than i thought but i am walking my but off. I walk twice a day for at least 45 minutes each time. I stick to mostly Protein and some carbs. I have kept to my goal of at least 10 pounds per month. I hope to meet my goal of 140 by the end of january. I havent added weights yet. Has anyone started this yet. I think i will wait for at least one more month. I need another fill soon. I can eat a little more that before. I really am excited. This is the smallest i have been in 10 years. Good luck to all.

I'm thrilled to report that I'm down 52.5 pounds since surgery on 5/19/08. I'm losing pretty steadily at a rate of about 10 pounds per month, on average. I LOVE MY BAND!!!!!

Wow. You were banded a few days after me (I was banded on May 13th) and you're losing at a much better rate than I am. You're more than double my weight loss.

I realize we all lose at a different pace, but I feel my chin going to my chest right now in defeat.

I have another fill (my third) today. I have restriction - sometimes. Sometimes the food goes down pretty hard and it hurts like hell, other times I'm wide open.

The weird thing is...I LOOK like I've dropped 75 lbs. The scale isn't moving a bit, but I look like I'm down a lot more than I've actually lost. Sigh... Why am I so hung up on my scale?! I irritate myself.

To MOMINLV13,

I had my surgery on the same day, May 19, and my total weight loss is 61 pounds. How weird is that?

Congratulations to all who are fighting the fight and are losing:)

I haven't lost anything in sometime, but I have done really well with my eating lately and I have been to the gym on a regular basis now, so I am hoping that it will start to come off again and soon...I'm really tiring of the same few lbs...up 1 down 1...you know the drill?

Good luck to everyone and to those that are losing...way to go!!!!

more later, Joanie )

Hi,

I was banded 5/2/08 and have lost 38 lbs. I've had three fills (1cc/.5cc/.5cc). Not crazy about the burning sensation when I'm being filled.

Working out regularly at the gym.

It's going o.k. I wish the weight would come off faster. Getting impatient. The nutritionist at the dr's office really helps keep me on track.

5/2/08 banded 242 lbs

:frown:I am getting so frustrated...I haven't lost any weight in almost a month. I have teetered from gaining +/- 2 lbs. I haven't had a fill yet and was banded on June 3 of this year...but I still have restriction at times. I can't ever eat breakfast...to tight so I was drinking the equate brand shakes and added a banana and splenda with a dash of vanilla and blend up with ice for bfst...but I think maybe that was actually hurting me..I don't know I just know I am not losing. I have started walking 3 times a week and walk a min. of 2 miles..and thought that would help my flatline of weightloss..but it hasn't touched the scale. Pelple are telling me they think I have lost more, but I can't see it..at all. That ole'belly is still hanging low low low..hahaha. I am kind of afraid to get a fill because I am feeling restriction, but I know I am able to eat more then I should...but am afraid once I get the fill it will be horrible. I do PB and slime still and so I don't want to make it worse. Any help from someone has been there would be greatly appreciated...Thanks guys....

I was banded May 15 and I am down 77lbs so far!

Penny, do you track what you eat? Do you calculate your calories every day? The first place to start is there. I love www.thedailyplate.com - I use it through LiveStrong.com. Great, great tool.

Your body needs/uses approximately 10 calories per pound that you weigh. If you weigh 200, your body uses about 2000 calories per day. If you eat less than that, you will lose weight. Eating 500 less calories per day = 1lb/week weight loss.

You can also go ahead and eat all 2000 calories... as long as you are burning your 500 or calories per day through exercise. Or, you could balance the two; eat 250 calories less and burn 250 extra calories per day.

If you are tracking your food, go back and be sure that you are tracking everything. You would be surprised how quickly the "little" things, the "tastes" add up. If you are not yet tracking, be brutally honest when you do track it. You won't be able to find your hurdle if you don't put it all in there.

OK, now on to restriction, food, etc. If you are PBing and sliming, you are eating too much, too fast, and/or eating foods that don't process well (that is, they do not fit through your new band). PBing and sliming are not rights of passage nor should they be considered part of a learning curve - they may not be all that uncommon, but they are NOT normal. You don't want them to happen, it's unhealthy and indicates that something is not being done right. Since you don't have a fill, you can't get an unfill to help alleviate it, so you have to take control.

Take it slow. Weigh out your food - my doctor recommends 4oz BY WEIGHT per meal, and only 3 meals per day. Every doctor is different, so go back to yours and ask what they recommend.

Definitely stick to lean Proteins (fish, chicken, lean beef) and get plenty of vegetables. Watch out for sauces, oils, butter, and other things used to cook your meals - especially at restaurants. Don't be afraid to ask for substitutions.

Also watch out for liquid calories. Lemonades, juices, etc. are LOADED with calories (unless, of course, you know for a fact they are low-cal, etc.). It's easy to suck down hundreds of calories in one meal drinking juice or juice-based drinks, alcohol, etc. You can have these things, but then you have to balance your calories somewhere else.

You can make this work. Look at what you are eating and when, write it all down, and do a little math. You will find success.

Good luck!

Was just in Las Vegas for 2 days and came home 3 lbs lighter!! Now that's never happened before! But before I would have done the buffets. This time DH and I shared one prime rib dinner. Anyhoo, I AM DOWN A TOTAL OF 69!!!! That is since my preop on May 14th, my surgery was 6/5, I got postponed a week so that's why I still consider myself part of the May's.

Congrats Felicia!

Penny I too highly recommend daily plate. I don't go by the calories they say I should eat but I do like how they track the calories and the Protein.

I'm down 72lbs as of today!!!!!!

I don't count cals. I don't even worry about them! I just follow my nutritionist's recommendations!! I'm very happy with my success thus far and I know that when I do reach my limit of weight loss, (NOT GOAL!!), that I'll be more in tune with how to maintain by setting limits, not by being "inside a box".

Wow - everyone has some fantastic weight loss. I went to my doctor yesterday for my third fill. I'm up to 9.5 in a 14 cc band. I gained two pounds. I almost fell down on the floor and cried. The nutritionist came in and started talking to me like she always does. Blech. She finally said, "I'm sensing tone and some disappointment". You think?! Duh.

So got the fill, which this time was suprisingly painful (never has been). I'm a woman on a mission right now. I'm so mad that I've gained and not lost anything. I weighed in at 278.5. Double blech.

I'm doing my two days of liquids. I weighed this morning and it said 270. I always weigh less in the morning. Also went for a 50 minute walk last night with my wonderful husband. Poor guy was huffing and puffing next to me cause I was walking with such a vengeance!

Dammit all...

That is a 7 pound difference between your scale and the doctor's scale. Seems like something is amiss!!!

Don't be so hard on yourself. You probably haven't hit your "sweet spot" yet. It takes some time to get there.

My weight loss has been very slow, but I refuse to give up. My restriction is pretty tight, but I think I will ask for 1 more fill. I want to be in onederland by Christmas!!!!!

I wouldn't go by the doctor's scale if I were you. They are seldom right. I work at a doctor's office and ours is almost 10 pounds off, they weigh everyone 10 pounds more than what they actually weigh. Most of them are just old. I know ours is. I would get a good decent digital scale and weigh on it everytime, and go by what it says.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
