Support in North Van next weeek !!!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone :biggrin2:

Sorry for starting a new thread on this but I couldn't find the old one.

Just a note to make sure everyone that is interested knows that there WILL be a meeting next Wednesday, May 21st. This meeting will take place at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver in conference room C just off the main lobby.

I know that there are some of you that find the distance to North Van is a bother but I'm hoping with the longer daylight hours and better weather, some of you will be able to join us few die-hards !!!

I have access to some printed materials that are very suitable for support meetings so if any of you that will be attending have a specific topic you would like to see discussed please post here and I'll try my best to print out some relevant info that we can discuss at the meeting.

Hope you all have a great weekend and I'll see you next week !!!

Patricia

Hi Anita :rolleyes2:

Welcome to LBT !!!

Our group meeting is held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at Lions Gate Hospital which means the next meeting will be on June 18th. It's really too bad you missed this last one, we had 2 other people joining us for the first time.

You can contact me at canadagirl33@hotmail.com Feel free to mail anytime if you have questions regarding the meeting or Lap-Banding in general

Hi: This site seems to be very popular with Lower Mainland bandsters or potential bandsters. I have just been contacted by a lady that lives in Langly. Canadagirl your little group seems to be growing.

Hi everyone !!! :biggrin2:

Bumping this thread up because once again the title applies....

Support in North Van next week !!!!

So to all of you in the area that have never come to our meeting, please feel free to join us....whether you are pre-op, newly banded or a oldie, we're happy to have you !!!

Any questions please feel free to emial me at canadagirl33@hotmail.com and if you have any suggestions for topics of discussion let me know by either posting here or in an email. I will be sending out the group mail later today or tomorrow, so if you're on my list you'll recieve that reminder as well.

Personally, I've been debating a fill for the last month or so....I know I can handle one, but I've been lax in following the rules lately and have been liking the fact that I can eat a little more than normal and a few different things (like bread!!!) But the scale has been sitting for long enough (6 months !!!) and now with the better weather I'm ready to get back on the bandwagon and start moving this last 25lbs.... So I'm going to book myself a fill appt in Bellingham for Wednesday morning !!! This means that if I show up at the meeting with 'that look' I'm tight !!!!! :)

See you all next week !!!!

See you there. Just got back from having my port corrected and by some miracle still tight. However in July, when I seen Dr. Woodhead will probably get 1/2cc to test the port. See you Wednesday.

Hello,

I just discovered this website and love it!

I had an RNY in 2000 and lost 130 lbs. I kept it off for five years and then slowly started to gain weight back. I am now about 35-40 lbs. back and am terrified.

I am scheduled to get a lap band over my RNY in August. I want to know if anybody out there has also done this.

The other option for RNYers is to get a Stomaphyx, where they staple your stomach and basically tighten it up. I know two people who have done that and one of them, 43 of the 52 staples fell out, and the other one...her stomac stretched again (as it does for all RNYers after a while).

Also, my lap band is scheduled for TLBC in Toronto. Has anybody been there? Where do you get your fills in BC?

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Zena

Please can you tell me when the next meeting in Vancouver will be?

Thanks!

Zena

I don't know what meetings if any are in Vancouver, but there is one tonight in North Van at Lions Gate Hospital. (See the first post in this thread)

I'm just not sure of time, I guess I will go at 7 and hope I'm close!

Zenaromy. I am a "graduate bandster" of the TLBC. Dr. Yau is a terrific doctor. In fact as you probably know, one of the doctors that introduced the band to Canada.

I have a few personal observations I could make if you wish to e mail me or send a private message.

Good luck on your journey.

The Lion's Gate meetings are every 3rd Wednesday of the month and posted on 3 sites. BC WLS.com, Canadianlapbanders.com and Lapbandtalk.com. We start at 7:00 pm officially, but one member who drives down from Pemberton arrives at 6:30 pm. Hope you can make it as we are now 13 members and we had a number of laughs but also discussed the good and the downside to the band.

Also, to get a fill in BC you must apply to Dr. R. Woodhead in Delta. He charged me $400.00 for the consult and $80.00 per fill. Much cheaper than flying back to Toronto for a "free fill"

it was nice meeting you all at the meeting. I feel much better knowing there is a support group to go to after I have my band put back on(if possible) in August. I'm getting very excited and scared.

Nice to see such great results from the lapband. You supplied me with much info,

See you next month!

I really enjoyed the large turnout. Who would of thunk so many would come out. It was so much fun listening to the comments of evryone about their journeys and we had some great laughs to. For months, the attendance was 3 sometimes just one so it was a great feeling to know there are others. Hope you all continue to come.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
