Hi from West Virginia

Hello, this is a wonderful site. I am considering the Lap Band. I just had my PCP office do a referral for me. I have Tricare and not sure who they are going to send me to. I have been browsing through this site for some time now and just registered! Thanks for all the valuable information here. I hope I do get approved! I know this is going to take a while since I am just in the beginning stages. If anyone has Tricare I would be interested to see how hard approval was.

I just got approved from Tri-Care and if you meet the qualifications and do the pre testing it goes very fast. I was approved in two days and I have read a lot of other posts saying the same thing ... Total time from first visit to my PC Dr to surgeon and now the surgery is 4 months. It goes fast . Waiting for the approval was the hardest ..

Good luck to you and keep us posted ..

I go next week and can't wait ..

Wow! That's great. Good luck next week. Will keep an eye on the posts to see how you do! I have TPR and there are no in network docs near me. So I have to wait and see who TriCare sends me to. I keep looking to see if anyone near the eastern panhandle of WV posts here with TriCare.

Hi, I am from the Charleston area. I had my first visit last week. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield so we are not sure how long it will take for them to approve the surgery. I am excited!!

Hi Dt and welcome!

Was this your surgical consult visit? I'm not that far yet. I did go to the information seminar and also filled out my H&P online. I'm scheduled for the phone interview part of the H&P next week. It is slow going but I know each day it's closer.

Good Luck!

Yes, this was the consult. I am a good candidate for the surgery, we just have to wait on the insurance approval. I have 130 lbs to loose. I have started trying to prepare myself with the way that I chew my food and trying not to eat in between meals. My BMI is at 47. Who knows, maybe we will get approved at the same time!!!! Who are you going to?

I'm going to Dr. Glembot in Winchester Va... well actually that's the office...lol I haven't actually got to go to him yet~ yeah I have a lot to lose also. But I'm trying to realistic in my goal setting right now! My first goal is to hit onederland first then go from there.

When they call me next week to do the phone part of my H&P she said this is when they will schedule my psych consult and any other lab work that is needed! She said they will also schedule me to see Dr. Glembot at that time!

I can't wait either!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
