No Fill Needed - Upset

Recommended Posts

:thumbdown:I went in to get my first fill since I had my surgery March 27th. Dr. Rodreiuz from Nortons Hospital said I didn't need a fill because I lost 20 lbs in 6 weeks. He said he was thrilled I lost that much, and he said to start walking to get my metabolism up. He said if you lose 6 lbs a month that is good. I told him I can eat over a cup of food but he said as long as your losing weight, don't worry about it. I was upset because I wanted a fill to lose more weight - it doesn't work that way. He said he'll see me in a month. Boy I was really disapointed. I don't think 6 lbs a month is good but he does. He said it is suppose to take you up to 3 yrs to lose your weight. There is no way I am waiting 3 yrs to lose 65 lbs. Hartsdream@aol.com

Well....I hate to be harsh, but get over it!!!!

He's right...if you're losing weight doing what you're doing right now, obviously your body is still burning more calories than you're taking in. So, even if your head is saying that you're eating too much, 20 lbs in 6 weeks is your body saying you're not.

Another thing, WHO CARES how long it takes you to lose 65 lbs???? Did you lose 65 lbs in the last 3 yrs??? I don't think so....or even if you did, and thought you could sustain that, you probably wouldn't be here in the first place.

Another thing.....the faster you lose weight, the less time your skin has to shrink with you....take your time, and you might find that you don't need that PS.....

I've only ost 35 lbs in 6 months since my band--and I'm frustrated--often. I've been averaging only 3 lbs a month since the initial weight loss right before/after surgery. So, I'm definitely not some lap-band hot shot telling you to chill your jets. It's taken me A LOT to get to a place where I can accept all the advise I'm given to you--and there are still some days when I get frustrated.

But, if your doc doesn't think you need a fill for another 4 weeks, that's the least of your worries! Buck up and be thankful for your awesome success so far!!!!! FOR REAL!!!!!!

well just to give another opinion..

i've lost almost 20lbs in 4 weeks. When i go for a fill at my 6 week mark i'll be upset if i don't get one...why? not because i want to lose more, but because it's ALL willpower. it's hard. i keep talking to myself when i want to eat and saying that soon enough i'll have a little help (i never eat more than 1/2 cup meals--but i CAN and WANT to).

don't know if that's what you're going through, but for me every single day is hard, but i don't cheat because i know that in time (hopefully) it'll get a little easier when i'm filled a little.

I had my surgery March 26th My starting weight on surgery day was 271 I had my 1st fill on April 22nd which I had lost 21 lbs. I have an AP-S band which holds 10 ml. The Dr had put 4 mls in on surgery day and when I had my 1st fill another 1.5 mls. For a total of 5.5 mls. I had my 2nd fill yesterday and she added 1.0 mls so now I have a total of 6.5 mls in a 10 ml band. I started feeling really hungry 8 days post op. Most of the 1st 21 lbs was lost in the 1st 14 days. When I had got my 1st fill I did not start feeling hungry again until about day 6. I am scheduled for another fill June 12. That is if I need it. I walk 4 miles every other day and ride my elliptical 20-30 Min's. I make sure I have 70 grams of Protein a day and 70- 80 ounces of Water a day. So far My total weight loss from a week before till now is 38 lbs. I am not sure why your Dr wont give you a fill but if you are hungry I can't imagine why not. It is a tool to help us but if the tool is not working then the Dr. needs to help you with a fill. Just my 2 cents. Good Luck.

I think it is good to hear when a Dr. is being conservative. I think it shows they are being thoughtful about your overall health, your body, and your band. They want you to succeed in the long run - not just meet short term goals.

I worry about so many stories I read hear about people so tight that they are sick so many times - and cannot keep food down - but don't want to get a small unfill because they might stop losing weight.

I wonder how we can truly be active and healthy if we can't eat enough or if our bodies are struggling. I am hoping to continue to be able to enjoy smaller amounts of lots of types of food and to continue to have the energy to run around with my kids.

I was banded on 3/27 too. Good luck with your journey.

Harts you are doing a great job losing without a fill so why get one when its not needed? by waiting to get one you will save yourself room in your band to get filled when you really need it. I am just over 6 months out and I have yet to have a fill. If you continue on the pace you are on now it will not take 3 years to lose 65 pounds - Im down 60 from my surgery date - and once you start working out - if you choose to do that - you will lose even more. I was actually glad at my 1 1/2 and 3 month visits when my Dr said that I didnt need a fill. I am sure I eat more then the average banded but as long as I am losing weight to me that as all that matters. Keep up the good work and you will be just fine.

i know just how you feel because i want the weight off fast too. i tease my surgeon and tell her to tighten me up so all i can swallow is spit. but she is the same as your doctor. she told me 1 to 2 pounds a week is good. it is safer that way. as long as it keeps coming off just be happy.

Um, I have taken 6 and 1/2 months to lose 34 pounds. I lost 15 in the past three months and when I went in for a fill yesterday he almost wouldn't give me one because I was losing 5 pounds a month. He finally gave me 1/4 of a cc! So it is hard for me to feel too sorry for you! You are doing great. My question for you is - why would you want to be more tight than necessary? If you are losing weight this well and can still eat quite a bit of food, you should be thankful! I would give anything to be able to eat a lot and still lose weight! The lap band is designed to allow you to lose 5 to 10 pounds a month. That is what has been deemed the healthiest way to lose weight scale. Enjoy it!

I can get fills every four weeks if I want to. I choose to play the wait and see game and get one when I feel the need. I understand being upset because you had your head all ready for this. Your doing GREAT! I won't tell you to "buck up" but rather refocus on what your goal is, not how fast you can get there!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
