Restriction and then none? This happen to anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hey March bandsters - hope you're all hanging in there and getting through the journey. I had my first fill (4 cc) Wed the 30th - was doing ok after some initial problems - actually had been feeling that maybe I was too tight because I would get the tight feeling in my chest only after a few bites of food. Well - as of yesterday morning, it seems that I have NO restriction!!!! I have been beyond starving, everything things to be going down no problem, there are things I've eaten that I know I have not chewed enough and they are going down no problem, I am not really getting the tight feeling, and as I said, I am STARVING!!!

Don't know what to do!! Has this happened to anyone? I was hoping that yesterday was some sort of fluke, but it's the same today. Plus, I am eating more, and still not feeling full. Feel like I did pre-surgery!

I'm going to call my dr's office on Monday - could I have a leak and Fluid be coming out? A girl in my office said she dealt with this for six months.

I just can't understand why these sudden and very severe changes would happen!!!

Any advice? Thoughts?

Thanks!!!

Yeah - I'm going to call on Monday- but my surgeon seems very conservative from what I hear...don't know if he'd want to do anything yet...

Do you know how they can tell if there's a leak?

I hear you. I had a 2 cc fill on 4/16 then went back two weeks later because I was so hungry. I had lost only 1.5 lbs. I was then filled again on 5/2 they took out the previous which only amounted to 1.5 cc. I then got 3.5 cc's and was restricted for a few days but now feel I could eat anyting. This is what I ate in one sitting, three scrambled eggs, a Peanut Butter sandwich and a banana. Now I don't think that's restriction.!!! I have scheduled yet another fill this coming Friday. My doctor is very good about letting you decide when enough is enough.....So I haven't hit my spot yet and continue to gain and lose the same 3 lbs. I work out every day with something.....it is frustrating!!! I hear you...we will get there I'm convinced...just be patient......I guess

FUnny you mention a leak. When I was waiting for my last fill someone in the waiting room was saying that she had been banded since August and just now they figured out she ha a leak. She said they had just done something to try to fix it. Hopefully whatever they did that day worked otherwise she would need to be opened up again to fix it.

These are not thing you want to hear in your surgeons waiting room. Check with your doctor and see what he thinks.

I have had good restriction since my last fill, but just yesterday had a bit of a binge session....nothing like b4, but more than usual by fat. It was head stuff looking back I chose foods that would pass pretty quickly.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
