PS before or after getting pregnant for a 2nd time?

Recommended Posts

Hey there people, I have been wondering if I should get my stomach flattened before I try for another child or after? I still haven't had the Lap-Band yet but I know this is what I will have to have done regardless. The main reason I am asking is because I HAVE to have a breast reduction on my large breasts for medical reasons also as well as for personal reasons. I plan on doing my breasts and the Tummy Tuck if that is what i choose to get at the same time. Any thoughts on this and all answers are welcomed!!

Hope to get my Lap-band soon also!!! My first seminar is next week!!:cursing:

The first question out of my PS mouth was "Do you plan on having kids?" Since I am only 28 she was concerned that I wanted kids, but since I don't she was willing to do the surgery. She does NOT recommend having children after the TT as it can stretch the skin and muscles again.

I don't know what the philosophies are from other PS's but I do remember reading about one of the former contestants on Biggest Loser who had a son after a LBL and she said it was very painful.

Pregnancy after a TT or body lift is not dangerous to you or the baby. It should not have an affect on pain level during pregnancy or delivery. The problem is that pregnancy will stretch the skin and disrupt the muscle repair. The skin should shrink back, but will not ever be as tight as it was before the pregnancy.

I routinely ask my patients if they are planning any pregnancies. If they are, I recommend waiting because they will get a better cosmetic outcome. Some women do not want to wait until after pregnancy for a TT, and I have no problem performing it...as long as they understand the implications.

I would have the lapband first, get pregnant then lose again, the the Tummy Tuck. You will definitely stretch out your stomach and might even damage the muscles when you get pregnant. Good luck.

If this were to happen can you have another Tummy Tuck with no problems?? I already have 3 kids and I did get my tubes tide but since I seperated and meet a wonderful man who has talked about having kids at this point I don't know if its an option because I already lost the weight and had my cosmetic surgery but just want the information.

There is no problem in getting a second tummy tuck. The muscles can be "re-repaired" and any excess skin can be removed. The recovery from a second TT is usually a bit easier than the first time around.

Keep in mind that while the skin may stretch and the muscles may "loosen" during pregnancy after TT, it may not be very extensive and it is not a given that you will need a "re-do TT."

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
