Where is your port?

Recommended Posts

I am sure this sounds odd but I have no idea where my port is and I have been banded 6 months!! :)

Is the port generally located near the largest scar? Im not really looking to go feeling around for it - sad to say but I think I would be grossed out if I felt it. I was just wondering where its located...because I dont know where it is I feel like my doctor played a trick on me and didnt really band me!!! But whatever he did is working so I am not complaining just curious.:confused2:

Uhmm.... Haven't you had a fill by now? Surely you'd know where the port is- that's where they put the needle for a fill! If not, it's usually under your left breast, a few inches above your waistline. It just feels like a small hard place, maybe 1" in diameter or less.

Was just goign to ask the same thing... have you not had a fill yet? 6 months out and no fill is pretty fantastic if not lol. Personally, my port is a couple inches to the left of my belly button and I can feel it as it's pretty close to my skin.

If you haven't had a fill yet then why not ask your doctor? Just say you weren't sure since you've never had to have a fill before and were wondering - seems like a legit question to me :)

Actually, if you're losing fine, there's no need to get a fill.. till you need it. It's just, most people will need one within 6 months :)

Your port should be somewhere around the largest incision, probably below? Have you pushed down and felt around?

No I have not had a fill yet. My weight loss is still going strong so I dont want to get a fill if its not needed. I try to gently rub along my left side but never seem to feel anything - maybe its still buried under all my fat?? Im a little worried about pressing to hard to locate it and if it is located around my largest scare then I would have alot of digging to do because that is where my shrinking spare tire resides

Mine is located in the center of my belly, just below my rib cage. I can feel it with no problem if I press down slightly. It is just below my largest scar.

I understand not searching for it - I too did not go around palpating my body after surgery. When I went for my first fill, the nurse found it within seconds - just below my belly-button. The nurse found it odd that I hadn't been looking for it - but then had me locate it and press it, and get to know how it feels. IT is not buried deeply so it is easy to find and feel.

mine is against my sternum, below where my bra wire sits, just under the skin.

wow this is really interesting to hear where people have their ports...i didn't realize that there were so many different places that the doctors put them...AND I thought that you couldn't feel it? Or weren't supposed to feel it? Just wondering...that what my surgeon said (i'm not banded YET)

most people say they can feel it and some can even see it under the skin after weight loss but I have not found mine yet. With all the different places that it seems to be located on everyone I dont think I will ever find it on my own. I suppose if I ever get a fill then I will know where it is but for now I will just be in the dark becaus I cant seem to get the guts to go searching yet :-)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
