Hi All,

I am new to this. I have been thinking about having the lap band procedure for a few years. But have just been more nervous than anything. Then my cousin had the surgery last April and she has lost about 50 pounds. It has given me more motivation. I am now just more sick of being overwieght and not being able to keep up with my son. I am a single mom, so to me it's everything, being able to keep up with him. Also I have been having terrible pain in my hips and both of my knees, which I know is due to the excess weight. (i'm 5'3 1/2 and 252 pounds) I really am at a point where I want to change my unhealthy lifestyle and I think the lap band will allow me to do this in a slower process than any other procedure out there? If anyone can give me some info. I would greatly appreciate it. I am from Rhode Island.

Thanks:redface:

Hi and welcome to LBT!

A slower process in what way? You do lose weight more slowly than with RNY (bypass), but you also don't suffer from the malabsorption issues bypass patients have because you still digest your food the same way and therefore, benefit from the nutrients.

If you're talking about insurance, it really depends on your company. I have seen people get approval in a matter of days after being submitted, while some take weeks or longer. It all depends on the company.

Hope I helped!

Thank you, I will look at the pictures. I know in my heart that this is the road to travel. It just helps when you hear what others have experinced (good and bad). Thanks again, and good luck to you!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
