I call my new ventures into sporty things, "Searching for my inner athlete."

I know what you mean about growing up thinking I didn't have any abilities...

Phooey on that.

O.K. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone and I gave my brother hell for being so irresponsible with his band but I couldn't help laughing at this story. So my brother also has a lap band and this morning he gets nailed for going 71 in a 55. As the cop was pulling him over he was in a panic thinking "I can't afford a ticket. I can't afford a ticket!" So he reaches over and grabs his lunch--a meat and cheese roll-up and takes a huge bite--chews twice and swallows. He feels it immediately as he is pulling over and he takes another bite and does the same thing. Then he grabs his drink and chugs it. He said by the time the cop was walking toward him his eyes were streaming and his chest was feeling like a bowling ball was inside struggling to get out. As the cop got to his door--he opened his door and threw up right at the cops feet. Cop says "man--get outta here--and just so you know I was going to write you up big time because your driving record is really bad. Even tho your sick I think you're a jackass." My brother was driving away chuckling and thinking "who's the jackass?" He told me "And that's going in my book which I will call--101 ways to use your lapband!"

Like I said--I gave him hell. But I've been laughing about it all day.

That's one way of using the tool isn't it? Funny. Gross, but I've got to say, I'm laughing.

Hi All, just stopping in to see how everyone's doing. Kinda slow right now, but know it will pick up soon.

I'm now convinced that even a little bit of spicy foods will give me issues. I only had a small amount of jalapeno seasoned diced tomatoes. Although it was for a few days. Well, Friday, it took hold of me and lasted from 12:30 till 5:00pm. Only began to subside when I began walking around. Today, Monday, I had that stuck feeling all day. Was only able to eat one bite of anything, just to have something in my system. And that wasn't much. So, no more spicy - hot foods for me.

To start back at the gym tomorrow. The first gym I was going to has two step classes. One is step dance, the second is step aerobics. I like them and stay for both. Or I may take class w/ the gym trainer and one step class. So, I'll be at the gym 3 - 4 days of the week. This is the least I can do for myself, since my daughter doesn't get home till after 8pm. That's pretty much the same time I leave the gym.

Well, hope all is well with you and your family. Especially those who've are taking or taken the final exams. Good Luck.

I'm really excited about my arthritis Water aerobics class. I had so much fun, I think I'm going to like. I was really nervous about putting on a swim suit, but I did it. I didn't see anyone laughing. I'm going to try to go again tomorrow and do the full blown Water aerobics class, or maybe just walk in the river. I really need this exercise.

Hope everyone had good weekend and now with the start of summer we all will be doing much better. I think eating better is easier in the summer then in the winter. Exercise is also much easier in the summer.

Hi everyone,

Nothing new to report. I'm hanging on right around the 60 lb mark. I'm on semester break this week and every day has been seeing someone and eating at a restaurant. I'm glad I'm not gaining, but I'd like to get back to some weight loss. Didn't feel like the gym today either--rainy, gray, yucky Portland day! Ugh! Not so much like spring here today.

Hope everyone is well and I hope you all had a nice holiday weekend.

Whats going on? Is everyone just tired or tired of working the band? I know that I'm fighting to do the right thing everyday and it is so hard. I still don't have a lot of restriction even after a year. They can't figure out why either. So I'm trying to hang in and keep my head up, but it is so hard.

Hope everyone is doing ok. Not much action on this thread anymore.

Nothing new here either. Not sure why I've been so depressed the last 2 months. Seems my Wellbutrin isn't kickin' it in like it used to. Perhaps it's hormonal. The last 2 weeks I've eaten everything in site. Just like the pre-band days. Eating a bunch of crap and eating too much of it. I even postponed my Dr. visit because I was too ashamed to get on the scale there. I have lost no significant weight in the last 6 months. Up and down the same 5 lbs.

I know this is not the bands fault...it's me. The same mentaility I had before.

My dh says I look good and I have to realize that there comes a point in time that I will not lose any more weight, and perhaps that's where I am. But I don't want it to be. 20 more lbs is all!....

Boy am I whining!

Sorry for spilling it, gotta run.

Mary,

Please don't let your lack of weight loss keep you from going to the doctor. Really we all got the band because we need medical help with getting the weight off.

He won't judge you and if you need a fill you're not going to get it any other way.

Hugs.

J

Hi All, just checking in also.

demsvmejm, have you been keeping a food diary lately? Why not make an appt. w/ you nutritionist/dietatician, to come up w/ a new meal program for you. Maybe it's something you're eating now that didn't bother you before to bring on your mood swings. And are you taking Vitamins or supplement?

You may be taking something to interfer w/ you medication. And we all know that stress can hamper our weight loss as well as other problems.

I can't put my finger on it either but I've just come off a eating binge. Since I became able to eat regularly after my spicy food binge. Then when my pants became tight on me again, and that's when I got back to the gym. So far I've started losing again.

Maybe you're about to come off your plateau. Maybe getting back into exercising you'll lose weight now.

We all seemed to be in sync about becoming to lack w/ our band and not doing the right things w/ it. Almost like a house full of women, menstrating in sync w/ each other. Well if that's the case we should all be getting back into eating right and exercising. Let's get to it. Now is not the time to take self pity.

Let's put this setback behind us and get moving forward. In April we we're on a up swing, May started slacking off, now that June is just a few days away, it it not meet us in a slump. What's our motto for May?

magnificent Marchies I May? Let's let's jump into June with both feet.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
