Stomach Sleepers - Does your band ever hurt?

From sleeping...I guess is the actual question. I ran into another anti bander, and when I expressed how excited I was that I had made this decision and was now awaiting approval, she asked if I sleep on my stomach, which I do, religiously...I can't sleep on my back, I've tried for years, I even have back problems from it - says my physical therapist, but I just can't fall alseep without being on my belly. Anyway, she said it will hurt constantly...NOT TRUE, I know, but can I get some feedback from those who are banded and sleep on their stomach? Thanks!

Is it possible you are referring to the port site hurting? (the band itself around my stomach does not hurt at all). Anyway, the answer is no (at least for myself) . . . I'm a serious stomach sleeper, and hate sleeping on my back. I sleep on my stomach all the time with no problems at all. Right after surgery, I did give the port site time to heal, and I slept on my side with a body pillow to lean into and give some support.

So I'm currently sleeping on my stomach, quite comfortably, just like I did before surgery! :)

Best of luck to you on your lap-band journey! I hope you get your approval soon. Don't listen to the nay-sayers . . . just be sure to research, research, research and do what you feel is best for you. :)

So, if she doesn't have the band, what makes her an authority on whether or not sleeping on your stomach when banded hurts??

At any rate, I frequently sleep on my stomach and it does not bother my port at all.

Hi Kini,

Not true at all.. I am a stomach sleeper, too. Many bandsters are. From my experience, I had two nights where I could not sleep on my tummy. After those two nights, I am back to sleeping on my tummy. I guess the number of nights after surgery will depend on how fast you heal - some sleep on their tummy from the first night, others may take a week or two... but "forever" is false. There are many misconceptions about the band and I am glad you are asking people first before you take it as a grain of truth! Keep the questions coming! I am crossing my fingers for your approval!

I'll see you in the chat room!

I was banded on Tuesday and I'm already sleeping on either side or on my stomach. The first night after surgery I had to sleep on my back. The second night I slept on the side opposite from the port. The third morning I woke up on my stomach. No problems at all.

I cannot sleep without being on my stomach either and I was banded 4/23. I did have to deal with a couple nights of being on my back but I was so exhausted that it didnt matter. Now I am back to my stomach and it's heaven... No pain no irritation just great sleep.

Not for me. It took about a month after surgery before I was able to do it again, but no problems.

I sleep on my stomach and ONLY on my stomach. Normally I'm fine, but I can feel the port and it's uncomfortable if the bed is hard or if I am on my stomach on the floor. But, usually I"m fine :-)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
