My dear hubby was banded on May 1st and is doing well except for occasionaly feeling like he needs to burp. All liquid so far, so i was wondering if it is still a side effect from the gas or if he is sipping to fast. He is definately drinking slowly, but i am wondering if he needs to slow down some more. He has had 2 4oz Protein Drinks and one can of Soup has lasted him all day. Any help would be great.

my gas was so bad for about 10 days after my surgery i thought i was gonna explode. and it was very painful, and never could get it to move through. it will pass, but he needs to call his doctor anyways.

Many report having gas for a week or two and most say that lots of walking is what helps it go away. Some also complain of shoulder pain which is also relate to gas pains.

Hi, I was banded on april 29 and also have that feeling of having to burp, but can't. the pain is more like a pressure (bad), anyway, my doc says that your stomache can get very swollen after surgery, and really take your time sipping slowly, small sips. I think that helped when I started taking smaller sips. Day 3 & 4 have been much better, I'm still very sore, but feel better.

Good luck to your DH!

Thanks for all the help. He has started to take smaller sips and slow down. He was taking small sips, but not small enough. He is amazed at how fast he gets full, but is ready for real food at the same time. 12 more days to go until mushie food. Good Luck to all and thanks again.

hi,

i had the same thing. they put a lot of gas into the area during surgery too. gas-x specifically helped. not the knock off, not mylanta, but gas-x really did the trick for me. i just popped the capsule with my teeth, swallowed the juice, and then spit out the shell.

good luck!

I was also banded on May 1st and had two bad days with pain in my chest and shoulders. Today is better, although it still feels like a golf ball is trying to pass through my chest everytime I have to burp!

The one thing I noticed in some of the messages is that some of you are eating at this stage. I was instructed to only have Water the day of surgery, Clear liquids for 4 days, full liquids for 7 days and then pureed foods for 7 days. I wonder if taking on texture at an early stage is increasing the amount of pain that is felt.

Maybe try cutting sticking to Clear Liquids a bit longer will help the stomach heal.

Good luck

I was banded on April 29th. Had hard pains in the center of my chest. Felt as though a hard burp would releive the pain. Didn't change too much a few days after surgery. Went to the Dr. 5 days after surgery he said it's a common feeling and it's caused by the band being so tight around the stomach and after healing and weight loss the feeling will subside. Today I still have the sensation but not as bad still bad enough where I still take pain meds at night.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
