Stuck or Full?? Are the feelings diffrent?

Recommended Posts

I've heard people talk about food being "Stuck" then I read a post were someone said "Stuck" is the same as filling "Full"???????? Is it??? I heard stuck food hurts - does full hurt too??

My concern is that I'm not going to be full - I understand I will still want stuff but this is gonna be really hard if I'm straving and just can eat anymore because I'm stuck :)

If you banded people don't mind give me a idea of your feelings and did you get that straving feeling and just could not eat or do you really have the full feeling (I understand you can be full and still "want" to eat).

Thanks for all the input  just trying to get ready as can be for my banding :frown:

Actually I never feel hunger. I'm about two months out. My pouch gets full easily, it's not stuck and it doesn't hurt unless I force myself to eat more.

Getting "stuck" is when some food gets jammed in the opening from the upper pouch to the main larger stomach below, and it is very painful. You'll know it when it happens, it's unmistakeable. This can cause thick saliva to flow, which is your body's way of preparing to vomit and is known as "sliming". The stuck food will eventually either go through, or you will vomit it up, known as PBing (productive burping). This is a little different to pre-banding vomiting, as it is mostly just the chewed and undigested food in your pouch and doesn't contain the stomach juices that make it smell like vomit.

Feeling full is just that - feeling like there's no room left to fit in more food. This also feels different to pre-banding days, in that the sensation of fullness is higher up (ie in your upper stomach). It wasn't as satisfying a feeling for me at first but after a while, I got used to thinking of that as my new "full" sensation. The aim of eating when banded, however, is not to try to eat until you feel full, i.e. can't fit any more in. You should be trying to eat until you no longer feel hunger (or "satiated"). Stop after each bite and listen to your body and think about whether or not you are still actually hungry, or if you could stop now without still feeling hungry. Stop eating when that happens and don't try to push it till you feel "full".

It takes a while to learn the new signals from your body, but hang in there and listen to it and as you get restriction the signals will become louder and clearer. Good luck with your journey!

stuck hurts. its like a golf ball stuck between your breasts. but if it happens, relax, because it will either eventually go down or come up. you'll understand the feeling of being full easily once you're banded. its nice, you feel full but not bloated. one of the things i love about the band is it stops me from eating so much that i am bloated and dont want to move. yes, that is the way i used to eat all the time, until i couldn't stuff any more in.

omg, getting food stuck is NOTHING like being full. being stuck hurts incredibly bad. for me it happens when i eat too big of a bite or eat too fast, and it sets off my gag reflex. i have had two fills already.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
