Wow, the gas pain is amazing. And the constipation...wow! I am suprised that I have not blown a whole open. Anyone else with this problem? I have felt guilty about having the band...that I could not do all of this on my own...crazy. Anyway, I'm glad I found your site and I look forard to meeting others like myself. I keep having this belching problem and I feel it all the way down to the bottom of my stomach when I burp...it still hurts. I also have that feeling of fullness in the back of my throat...can't wait till that goes away. I look forward to the day that I'm glad that I did this. Thanks for any input. E.

I am so glad you posted. I had my surgery on the 28th also. As soon as I woke up I had a lot of guilt too. A little too late for second thoughts but none the less I can stop thinking "why did I do this". I am sure it will pass. I know I made the right decision and I am on my way to a healthier me. I just wanted you to know you are not alone.

Hi everone. I was banded on 9/20/07 and I am SO GLAD that I decided to get the band. I have lost 75 lbs so far and I feel GREAT!!! The things that you're feeling now after having surgery....don't worry it does get much better  Hang in there. My dr told me to take Miralax to help with the Constipation or gas x strips for the gas pain and both of those helped me tremendously. I wish you all lots of success on your journey....oh and the guilty feeling....don't think of it as you couldn't do it on your own because trust me you still have lots of work to do on your own.

I was banded on 04/09. I was really bloated suffered from painful gas too. It's usually just the residual from the gas the surgeon inflates you with to do the laproscopic surgery and it will go away. Try the Gas-X strips (they really help) and go out for a long walk. But beware of the day when the built-up gas makes its escape. You'll want to be near the bathroom with nobody listening outside the door.

Hi everyone. I was banded on the 28th also and I too am having guilt about not being able to do this on my own. Right now my kids are making popcorn and it smells sooo good. I'm feeling pretty good though- not a lot of pain but I hungry and so sick of sweet shakes. I want anything that's not sweet

Hello ET and others,

I was banded on the 28th also. I am dealing with the belching also. I am so glad you posted. My doc recommends plenty of fluids to help with elimination and I have found that helpful. I am confident that I have made the right decision and know that this initial stage will pass. I dealt with some guilt until my husband pointed out to me that morbid obesity is an illness and when you are sick, you just don't sit down and be content to stay sick. You avail yourself to available treatment. For me, this is the treatment of last resort. I have tried everything else. I am thankful for this board and for all of you. Most of all, I am grateful that this treatment even exsists. A smooth recovery to all of us newbies, thanks to the oldtimers, and good health for all:smile:

These all sound so familiar. I was banded 4/21/08 and boy the gas was bad. It hit me about 5 days after surgery. I found sipping mint tea and walks seemed to help me.

Guilt kept me from chosing to do the band for years. I had to get to the point where I had no other choices and that I could not do it on my own. I am still afraid of failing but I am going to try my best.

It is good to know that others have the same feelings.

Take care and be well.

Tammy, I couldn't agree with you more about this site. I am so glad I found it, as I know after I have mine done on May 20, I will need all of you to help me thru the early days. As for the band, I too, have done it all, nothing out there that I haven't tried, and after 25 yrs, maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel for all of us willing to suffer a little for a longer life. I just wonder though, because I only have about 80 lbs to lose, if it will take longer than someone with over 100 to lose. I don't want instant gratification, and know that it will take awhile, but I like to think maybe in a yr, I can lose that much.

I was banded on April 22 and I still have horrible gas pains and my stomach is still very bloated. I have already lost 23 lbs, but it's hard to tell because of the bloating. Everyone around me says that they can tell, but all I see is my swollen stomach.

I used to hate when I burped or anyone else burped near me...... I now have a religious fondness of burping. Nothing else feels better. LOL

I want to know how all of you are managing to drink all that you should be. I am full so fast.

Good luck to all,

Kim

I can't thank all of you enough for your support! I have felt this very strange need for me anyway, to cry! Emotions are crazy right now. I found some relife through benefiber. Really helps. May 10 year old daughter, husband and I danced a little jigg this AM when I was able to go! Sounds crazy, but I am thankful as many of you know for the little things right now.

I have also had some broth and that is helping to change things up a bit...I also had coffee this AM...all contributed to the success. Ok, oversharing...sorry! Each day I feel better. Each day the guilt gets better too. I know I need this surgery to be successful. Lost 107lbs in 2003. Kept it off for 3 1/2 years. Then sold my company and put almost all of it back on. Losing the weight will not be the hard part. keeping it off and learning to not be mad at myself for re-gaining the weight and having to go throught the pain of losing is again will be my struggle in the long run. Thanks again! E.:)

I was banded on the 28th also. At this point I'm wishing I hadn't had the surgery. I feel very weak, my back and shoulders hurt alot of the time. Right now the only thing(s) that taste good to me are Carnation Instant Breakfast drinks, or instant mashed potatoes. All I want to do is lay around. Can someone help me please?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
