May exercise challenge

Sugrbear - I've never been to the support meetings. I live North of Dallas  I travel down for my fills since he includes the first year (which is almost up!!) I've located a local doctor to take me on once I'm done with Spivak. He's great but I don't like that drive!

Ok, haven't posted in a couple of days. Been pretty hectic, but still got my workouts in. Here is the lowdown:

Saturday-Did 65 minutes of HARD interval training on ellipical machine. Followed that with 1.55 miles (1/2 5k) in 15 minutes of running on treadmill. Followed that with another 50 minutes on the elliptical. Total of 11.4 miles and 2350 calories.

Sunday-skipped the gym in favor of outdoor activities as it was FINALLY nice on a weekend day here. Rode my bike for 16 miles, put the dog on the leash and walked/ran (1/2 and 1/2) for a 5k around the neighborhood. Got home, thought to myself "I'm done, got no more energy". Then, realized immediately that was not true, had plenty more. Went outside and raked the front yard.

Monday-Had to call off from work due to Water heater problem at home.:tt1: But, got 2 hrs 10 minutes on the elliptical again. Went home, took care of Water heater problem, hopefully. Went back to the gym and hit the upper body workout. Kind of tired after all the previous stuff, but made it through the 11 rep circuits.

Last night, I rode my bike 3.5 miles each way to ump. Loved it, but my ass is really sore today after the last 2.

This morning was 60 minutes on elliptical again. Tonight will be lower body.

Pretty limited in the number of posters lately. Everyone must be outside .

I did my upper body last night as promised. As I am running in a 5k tomorrow, I wanted a full 24 hrs after my leg workout to recoup, so I went in this morning, did my leg workout and 45 minutes on the elliptical. I'll go back in tonight after work for another 45-maybe.

Tomorrow, as mentioned, is 5k run number 2. This one is supposed to be more hilly, so I don't know how I will do. Especially, since I will probably be running by myself as my BIL runs faster than I do. Oh well, I just want to hit around the 31:49 as I did a couple weeks ago. Being greedy, I want to beat that time. We'll see.

Good luck Ceradad on your 5k!!!!!

Did the jogging club again today - did the 5k stretch; had to take breathers - felt like I had smoker's lung again (quit 5 yrs ago). It was HOT today and I didn't have any water/gatorade w/ me. We are switching our runs to mornings pretty quick after today. Running at high noon isn't a good idea anymore.

I don't know why today was so hard - did cardio yesterday and we did lunges, core work and back work. This little mini hills were kicking my booty today!!!!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!

Hey Everyone

I took a small hiatus (only four months??!!!???) but I'm back. I'm committed to eating better and getting back to the crazy workout schedule I had during the winter. Tomorrow is my first spin class since January and I am so frightened yet so excited!!!!!!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
