O Restriction, Restriction, wherefore art thou Restriction?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if any of us have actually gotten to the "sweet spot" yet. I know I'm closing in on it. I have the portion size restriction, but not the time yet. I still get hungry about 2-3 hours after eating, when it should be 4-6 hours.

I have no idea how many cc's I'm filled, my doc doesn't share that info. I have a Realize Band, 9cc. I've had 4 fills and have another scheduled May 22.

Just wondering where all ya'll stand as far as restriction??

At 6.1cc's in a 10cc band, and I am at that sweet spot. Boy am I at it.

I have trouble eating all morning, even when I feel hungry, but then for the first few days after the last fill, I would go hog wild when I could get food down, and then would PB. I am finally at a point where I eat unbelieveably slow and chew when I am finally able to get food down, usually but 1 or 2 in the afternoon.

The funny thing, liquids don't go down too well either in the morning, so I am not cheating with soft stuff.

The home scale shows 3 pounds down from the last fill on April 18th, so my body is adjusting.

I am so not looking for another fill at my next visit, which is still 3 weeks away.

I had my last fill this Tuesday. I haven't really "tested" it yet. I haven't eaten any firm Protein like chicken. I have had tuna. It went down, but I couldn't get much in. I still think I "empty" too fast. Since the last fill I haven't been as hungry, so that gives me great hope! Maybe I'll reallly try out this fill tonight and see if I can get some chicken breast down.

I had my 3rd fill yesterday and now have 6.6 cc's in my 10cc band. This is the first time I've felt TRUE and lasting restriction.....like crisann mentioned above....this morning, i was having a hard time getting liquids down. It took me 45 mins to drink and Optifast shake. I'm still on liquids for the rest of today and will slowly go to mushies tomorrow. I'm hoping this is my sweet spot too. The last fill I went from 5 cc's to 6 cc's and didn't feel much restriction all month. Yesterday, just adding .8 cc and I felt too tight...so he took .2 back out. Isn't it strange how so little can make that much of a difference?

I have a slight bit of restriction but no where near my sweet spot - I eat less for sure but the only thing stopping me from eating too much is me telling myself to stop eating. I definitely need at least 1 more fill and that may do it.. I have had 3 so far and go for my fourth (i hope) on Thursday.

It is frustrating isnt it? lol

I have had three fills and go for #4 on 5-7. I eat less, but get hungry more quickly than I would like. My fills cost $175 so I would like to get to a place of long lasting satiety as soon as I can! My doc has emphasized solid Protein and no liquid calories and I can sure see the wisdom in that. When I follow the rules, the tool works! I seem to get more hungry late in the day. Do you? How do you handle it?

Jim,

I have horrible afternoon hunger issues. I'm soo good at work and eat healthy lo cal stuff, but once I get home at 5 I'm ready to eat anything and everything in sight! This last fill is better than I first suspected, so that has eased up, but before that boy howdy. I started trying to drink a Protein shake at about 2 oclock or so and that helped.

I think that I am satisfied with this last fill. Today for lunch I tried to eat a pouch of Lemon Pepper tuna and a couple of strawberries. Well, I got about 1/2 the tuna down after about 20 mins and 1 strawberry. I think that that is enough restriction for me right now.

Hi Jim,

This has helped me to stay full, get in my Water and Protein for the day. I take a 1 liter water bottle, pour in the 3 oz protein bullet (42 grams of protein), and add 1 crystal light individual packet for flavor. The protein bullets are flovored but I like to add the crystal light lemonade as well. I buy mine at The Vitamin Shoppe.....12 in a case for @ $35. Protein is key to keeping us full. I struggle with getting in my Water each day....so this is extra incentive for me....getting my water & protein at the same time is perfect.

good luck! Keep up the great work!!

I can now officially say I am at my sweet spot and its strange.

I am not feeling hunger most of the day. I have iced coffee in the morning, and juice, but the juice is the veggies and fruit I put in my juicer. I eat a small lunch, all Protein, between 1:00-3:00PM yes, it takes 2 hours to get down 4-6oz. For dinner, around 7:00PM, nothing more than 3-4oz food. Around 9PM I try to get in some vegetables, just to get something else in.

Thats it for the day. I am not hungry and if I try to eat when I am not, it comes right back up. I am making sure to take my Vitamins, and drink Propel during the day. I am not snacking for the most part. When I do, its nuts or a teaspoon of Peanut Butter.

Not sure if this is all ok, but I am feeling fine. Its just weird....

I wouldn't call it the promised land, but I know it starting to work.

Sometimes I am now so battling my head hunger. Because when my portions are not controlled, I do think I can eat more, the only thing saving me is that I feel that tightness so I stop immediately.

Today I soo wanted French Fries. Someone at work had them with their lunch, and I ate 3 and was full. These were McDonald's fries, so they were thin. But I got the taste of them and then it was over.

But my head is still in shock, 3 fries and you are full, whats wrong with you.......

I'm with you there Chrisann. I once read somewhere on here that someone had a "five bites" rule. Take 5 bites and then stop. I remember reading that and thinking, yeah right! Thats pretty much where I am now.

Me and the man went out for Mexican last night in celebration of cinco de mayo. Well, I knew that I probably should just order a taco or an enchilada, but I've still got the dual personality that says "I'm sure I'm not going to be able to eat a whole taco" and the other side that says "But what if I'm still hungry?" GEEEZ Anyways, I went with a combo that had an enchilada, a taco, and a burrito (basically my man said, well, I want leftovers!!) 1 bite of enchilada, 1 bite of burrito, 3 bites of taco, DONE.

I LOVE MY BAND

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
