Hello. My name is Christine. I am 31 and a mother of three and wife to a wonderful husband. I see the surgeon on the 6th to discuss the Lap Band.:sad:I hope he will take me as a patient. My surgeon is Dr. Cahn in Boise, Idaho. I am 5 ft 5 in and weigh 280.4. My BMI is 46.7. UGH!!! I have everything my insurance wants so hopefully it will go through. I am hoping and praying for the best. I eat healthy most of the time and don't generally eat too much but I still seem to gain. It is very frustrating, so I finally had enough and decided to do the surgery. Well, I'll see y'all later. Gotta go wrangle kids. Thank you for letting me join, I don't think I could do this on my own and finding support groups in my area is nigh on impossible. There is one that meets once a month and that is it. So if I can't make it one month there is no where else for me to go. I'm glad I found this site. With encouragement and support I know I can do this.:cool2:

Hi Christine, I'm glad I found this site too. There are no support groups where I'm from and this forum has been so informative. I don't feel alone in my journey.

Welcome, and I hope you hear from your insurance soon. It's exciting, isn't it? I just love the "hope" of the band and how it's slowly turning into reality.

Hi and welcome! I'm also a mother of three, I'm originally from the west (Utah) and started about the same BMI as you. I've been banded for nearly three months and as you can see on my ticker, my BMI is 38.2 now. This has been an amazing miracle in my life.

I live in a very rural area and my surgeon's support groups are three hours away. So this site is my lifeline as well as a few people I keep in contact with over the phone.

Thanks. The support is really great. To shinyhappy you are doing awesome. Congrats so far. That is what I'm hoping for. My mom is going with me so she can talk to the surgeon, too. She just wants to make sure for me. She's great. Getting closer and the closer it gets the more nervous I get. Don't know why maybe because this is life altering. :confused2: My husband is glad I've gone lapband and not bypass. He was really worried about that. We talked quite a bit and he thought I would have to have a really special diet but I told him it was mostly smaller portions and super smart eating. I can't wait to start my journey. I have decided that I will succeed and anything contrary to that is simply not allowed. I get to be the guinea pig for my family. When it works great for me my older sister is going to get it and we are trying to talk my father into it, too. He could really use the help. He keeps saying that it is too late for him cause he's 54 but I say better late than never. He is not going to be around for long if something doesn't change. He is 6'2" and weighs over 350. I pray that he will do this everyday. Well, thanks for letting me ramble. I'll talk to y'all later.

Hi Christine and welcome to LBT! Good luck with getting your band. I am waiting on insurance approval and I will be joining Bandland myself! This is the most frustrating part I think.

I had the same problem with my husband when I first began discussing WLS and it finally took him going to an appointment with me for him to understand that I will still be able to enjoy my favorite foods, just not in such large quantities. He feels much better about it now. Fortunately, he doesn't have the weight battle. In trying to convince your husband to consider it, have him look around on here. There are people here who are just getting the band who are older than he is. As long as you are breathing, is it ever too late to increase the quality and length of your life? I don't think so!!

Welcome to the club! You will find a lot of support here. I can't make it to the local support group due to scheduling, so I use this group as my support. I may not post a lot right now, but I'm on here at least every other day to read, read, read, and then to read some more.

Welcome! This is the greatest place! I found it a few months ago, and what a wealth of information everyone is around here. I learned so much. I think coming here was one of the best things I did to get me prepared for surgery. I was able to weigh pros and cons, do more homework/research on my own and find out things that the doctor's office didn't tell me!! I went into surgery well informed and very comfortable with my decision. I love it here!

Glad you came!

~C

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
