Understanding being full or Stuck ?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a question... sometimes when I eat I feel full right up to my throat but there is an ache like something is stuck then if I pay close attention there is pressure and it passes through. Seems like I get the best results with eating so little when I get that tightning feeling. I have a very hard time to understand if it is a feeling of full or of being stuck. I have a 10 cc band and have 5 ccs in it. My last fill was three weeks ago where I got 1 cc. For the week after my fill I could not eat hardly anything. I was soooo happy I was full or stuck after only a few bites now I can eat alot more and only get that feeling occasionally. Whether or not I was actually full or stuck not sure but it made me stop eating. I am also not sure when to stop getting fills... kinda confusing. I feel now like I can eat more than I should but two weeks ago I had the scale moving like crazy. Any thought on helping me understand this whole thing would be so appreciated. Thank you so much. I would be so intersted to know how you feel when you stop eating. Thank Kim

Jack hit it on the button. You stop eating before you feel full. If you are getting an "in your throat" feeling, then you are eating too much, packing the pouch and potentially damaging your esophagus.

This is, for me, the hardest lesson to learn. I am almost three years out and still fight this fight.

I wish you better luck with it than me! :blushing:

I have the same problem as you at times. I haven't mastered and eating slowly thing yet and sometimes by the time I realize I've had enough food I'm too full. At first I used to measure every bit of food before I ate it. As long as you're not putting over 1/2 to 3/4 C in the pouch, it should not be overfilled. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
