Seriously having second thoughts

Recommended Posts

I never had a doubt and fought tooth and nail every step of the way until band-day. However, as I was sitting in the preop room, all I could think was 'What am I doing?' For that entire hour I doubted myself, kept thinking 'What if it doesn't work?', I think it was mostly nerves. Now though, only 6 days later I am already thankful and so happy that I followed through. My weight is already dropping, I feel renewed. Good luck to you in your decision.

you are right...right now, i still only read certain things on the site, because when i read about someone's diet or someone's problem, i start looking for it to happen to me.....But i have come to realize all people are different and the band procedure is pretty much always tolerated differently.

Thanks everyone for all the great advice! I know that if I don't get the band, I will stay this way. And chances are I will get bigger. I somehow gained 20 pounds over the holidays and I still can't get it off. So I know my options are to take the chance and get the band or stay fat forever. I can't say that I've made up my mind for sure, but I go to the preop class next week and hopefully after the class I won't have so many doubts. My neice is getting married this weekend and I keep thinking how nice it would be if I wasn't so fat at her wedding. Thinking about things like that, and thinking about the other things I will be able to do after losing weight is helping me focus more on the positive things that the band can do and not the negatives. It would also be nice not to have such bad arthritis knee pain this winter.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
