I had my band placed on the 24th. I have been sitting around here for 2 days watching my family eat and woundering if I will be able to eat normal meals with them again. I am living on liquid right now and I hate every minute of it. I was just woundering how much you are able to eat and when can you start eating some of the same things that you use to eat. Just not as much.

You will be able to eat regular food again. What did your surgeon tell you about a post op diet timeline? Doctors differ about when you start eating food.< /p>

You will probably find, if you are like me, that you have to eat a lot slower, much less, and that you will occasionally have problems with some foods. Don't think of it as a loss; think of it as your band doing what it is supposed to do, which is to stop you from eating the way you used to. I have found that while I can't eat like I used to, I don't really miss it. And I really don't miss the weight I've lost.

ProudDad,

There is light at the end of the tunnel, soon it'll be time to introduce mushies and then solids again.. then enter Bandster Hell! Good luck with that.. Then once you get a fill.. you go back on liquids again, I'm learning through experience, that the lap band is not our savior, it's our friend, helping to show you the way, but its going to be your job to do what it takes to lose the weight, Still alot of work that you have to do on your own, You have to watch every morsel that you stick into your mouth now, you will be eating with an awareness now that you never did before, these days will pass.. (Pssst.. quit watching them while they eat Silly!) :smile2:

Good Luck!

Proud Dad,

I was about to post the same thing! I had to cook a frozen pizza tonight for my kids. It smelled up the whole house! I quick got it out of the oven, cut it up, got plates out for them, and ran upstairs to my room to hide (and feel sorry for myself!). I'm on liquids 1 wk post op, then to mushies & cream Soups. I want something to CHEW ON !!!!

I AM losing a lot of weight, though......

Sooner or later you will be able to eat meals with your family again, probably within a few weeks. There may be some foods you cant tolerate, but by and large, most bandsters can eat fairly normally.

There's ALWAYS some foods you cant tolerate, banded or not, lol. If someone served me up liver I'd vomit on the spot! That's got nothing to do with my band.

My dh takes FOREVER to finish a meal. I was hoping that when I get the band I'll finally take as long he does. :smile2:

Its hard for me to remember to take small sips (I'm still on liquids). Sometimes I have to spit out some of my Water or broth because I took too big of a drink! I haven't had any serious pain from sipping to much.....just like a gas bubble stuck in my esophogus. I pound on my chest a few times & burp.

Dear Proud Dad,

I have to tell you that there is light at the end of the tunnel!! My doctor told me to eat what I wanted when I felt like I could tolorate it. Well, I am up and running and losing at the same time!! My hunny took me out to eat and we had a wonderful time and I was able to nibble on a few things and did not feel deprived one bit!! It was a normal as I could have ever wanted. I just chewed and chewed and chewed and it all went down and stayed down and I was very happy so was my hunny!! You will see that soon you will be able to enjoy your time with your family and eating will not be an issue anymore.

Nancy

I'm sick of broth & Jello. The SF Jello seems to be too sweet! I have to add extra Water to it when I'm making it. Yesterday, I SO wanted to just lick a piece of cheddar cheese!!!

at easter I was able to eat about 1 1/2 cups of food.< /p>

turkey, cut and chewed, and small of everthing else. I normally would eat 2 plates of food at dinner, but now I eat only 1 1/2 cups, but after cutting and chewing I finished the same time as everyone else.

Yes you will be able to eat family dinners again. my family eats together daily dinner at 5:30, and other than the girls fighting sometimes, things are great.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
