One day at a time...maybe one hour at a time!

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to be patient taking it one day if not one hour at a time here, had surgery Wed. AM, I KNOW I'm still healing and will be for a long time. But i can't get in the required amount of food/protein therefore I"m tired, weak, lethargic. I don't know how some went back to work in a few days?? I'm shocked, I think I'm doing well, up and about the whole day, and in a recliner if I sit. I just feel like how am i going to get my strength back if i can't eat? Will my pouch always limit me to eat this little, or is it just really swollen and tight? I feel like I'll never feel back to normal.....

I know I am having a bit of a pity party here, I"ll get over it soon! :(

Saw this today on my food tracker web site and it fit right with what you need. Hang in there.

I was the exact, same way. It's definitely swelling. All of the sudden, around day 6, I was able to drink a whole shake. I started feeling better then. Just hang on a little longer and remember you can always call your doc if you think something's wrong or you are worried.

Hang in there!!

Hi, Time2bandme. I was banded on Wednesday am too. I am also having trouble getting the minimum amount of fluids down, but just sipping all the time. I find it hard to swallow, whether it is just Water, or somethign else. Just about the time the Fluid goes down, my esophagus tigthens up and it feels like I have an air bubble. But it goes down and I just keep sipping. This may also be partly due to a large hiatal hernia repair that they also had to do. I am just trying to get a little in at a time and try to have some of the things that I sip have some nutritional value to them, like I had one Protein Drink yesterday and this morning had an Instant Breakfast made with low fat milk. The rest has been the usual water , Jello and popsicles. Of course it depends on what your doc said to have during this stage. It took me 30 minutes to drink 8 oz, but it seems to be working. This morning when I woke up, I knew, before I got out of bed, that I was a little better today. We are healing and it takes time. Just hang in there. MJ

Different people respond in different ways to the surgery. In my case, after my surgery I was up and around right away. I went to large trade show within a week after I got out of the hospital, and I did just fine. But, other people have taken a lot longer to heal....It's very individual.

Besides, the "one day at a time" is a great way to live your life anyway!

Give it time, you'll do just fine. :smile2:

Hey Katie-

I was feeling the exact same way. I had surgery on Monday, and I swear that I woke up Friday morning and felt totally different and exponentially better. Seriously.

Cut yourself some slack, Girlie! It's going to take some time to feel better. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that these bodies of ours are pretty damned miraculous. They have this utter ability to heal themselves and make themselves right *if* we give them a chance and a little time.

You've feel better. Give yourself a few days. I promise!

gentle and ginger hugs

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
