First fill blues

Recommended Posts

I got my first fill one month after my surgery. Dr put in 4mls and was told that I would feel sore for a short time. After a day of feeling my pouch being squashed, constant burping and not being able to drink or eat anything. I went back and he took out 2mls, I could physically feel the band release and the pain and burping was gone. I now feel fantastic.

I am eating everything, except in smaller portions. Warning do not drink soft drinks or eat white bread. This is a no-no for me.

I do not feel hungry anymore. I get up in the mornings and have a bowl of Cereal and a cup of tea. lunch I have a small tin of mandarins and yogurt. Dinner- depends what the wife makes and of course a cup of tea. That is enough for me, which is fantastic as I would normally have triple that at least.

ozscot - sounds like you're at the perfect fill right now for you. That's always great! A fill isn't a science that's for sure since every patient is different with different needs as fills go. I've been there myself....A FEW TIMES...on the overfilled part. It stinks having to go back for the slight unfill but, it's worth it. For some people, like myself, you don't get the full effect of the fill in the office, it comes a day or two later. I've been to the point where I couldn't swallow my own saliva and that's scarey! Anyway good for you to let your doc know you were having an issue and for getting it taken care of. Good luck with your band and have a great weekend!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
