How many fills?????

Recommended Posts

Wow.. I have just made an appointment to have lap band surgery....I am really surprised to read the number of fills that are required to maintain weight loss??? Is this normal with all lapbanders??? How painful is it after surgery?

Fills are not painful at all. It hurts about as much as them drawing blood for tests. I don't even feel the needle going in at all. I've been banded almost 2.5 years and just had my 6th fill. Everyone is different so you have no idea how many fills you will require but they are necessary to make this work.

On the contrary, you should be amazed that this tool is completely adjustable to fit your anatomy and lifestyle.

You will most likely need initial adjustments to achieve restriction (some never need any fills at all). After you achieve restriction you may need additional adjustments as you lose weight, just as you may need to resize your wedding ring due to the weight loss.

I personally think the newer bands require more initial fills simply because their improved design allows them to fit a wider range of individuals.

My doctor wants to see me at least every six months, but that doesn't mean I'll need an adjustment each time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
