clothes don't fit like they used to?

Recommended Posts

so, i have this pair of jeans that i used to wear the last time i weighed 270. actually, i think i probably got them when i was more 275-280. well, i'm 270 now, and i still can't button them. i can almost button them, but they would be very uncomfortable if i did. my current pants are all really loose because ive lost 20 lbs, but i'm not quite into the next smaller size of old pants, and i really don't feel like buying more (especially b/c it's summer).

i'm just wondering if anyone else had these problems? are you as small at your weight now as you were when you weighed it before, or is your body different now?

It's hard for me to say since I've had three kids since I was last this weight...oh, and I'm at least 10 years older...but yes...my clothing fits differently now.

But...I think that is pretty normal...because i fyou were to gain 50lbs back, you would probably gain it differently than it sat on you this time...

Perhaps it is a conspiracy from the retailers to make us purchase all new clothing!!!! :rolleyes2:

I am both a custom clothier and alterations specialist. How long ago were you 270? I was banded in November and I am down almost 60 pounds. I am finding that as I get to weights I was years ago, my body is not the same shape it was the last time I was that weight. There are normal changes to our body as we age regardless of weight and that may be part of the issue. Also, I found it took a while for me to have non scale victories with regard to my body shrinking to the new weight. I still have clothing I can not get into and will probably have to be down another 20 pounds before they fit. But I am waiting and looking forward to getting into them.

2 weeks ago I tried on my denim skirt and my jeans which were both too tight across my bum enought to be uncomfortable.

Whilst I didn't lose weight those two weeks, I must have lost bulk as I fitted into both! So that's a NSV for me!

But yes, I have lost 13kg (28.6lbs) and some of my old clothes that I still barely get away with definately look better on me now than they used to. In fact they probably look all wrong as they are so big!

I have bought a couple of items of clothing, but I have a wardrobe full of clothes that I have kept 'just in case I lost a few kilos' that should now fit. I can't wait to buy new things in a size smaller than I can remember!

it's only been a few years for me since i fit in these jeans. 2 or 3 years. but guess what. i put them on last night and they fit!!! yeah! still not wonderfully, but i can get them buttoned and they aren't too tight breathe (they just make my upper belly roll bigger). they still don't fit like they used to yet, but 3 weeks ago i wouldn't have been able to get them anywhere near buttoned. these jeans were my comparison jeans (i've been trying them on every few days to see if they fit yet) so now i KNOW i've lost weight. Yippee!!

I found it took a lot of time for my tummy swelling to go down from the surgery. That could be part of the problem also. Good luck.

I haven't been banded yet, but I've put myself on a pre-surgery diet. So far I've lost 25 pounds and my body is totally not reacting the same way it used to when I'd lose weight.

My stomach especially is acting goofy. I'm losing it in the upper stomach, but not at my waist (weird). My calves are going down, but not my thighs (again, weird for me) and my arms are going down (which they never did before). I think it's age! LOL

I figure our bodies are just going to do it their way and we just have to work it. I'm a firm believer that our weight shifts. The last time I lost a lot of weight (10 years ago I lost 100 lbs), there were days when my stomach was out further than my boobs, then the next day, the stomach would be flatter and I'd be busty again. My family thought it was hilarious.

Hang in there. Losing weight puts us in an awkward place - we're learning (and listening) to our bodies for the first time in a long time!

I seem to have lost most of my weight from the waist down! Its very odd. Im still waiting for my torso and boobs to lose as much as the rest of me! But none the less im a happy camper!

I was last this weight about 12 years ago and I suspect that clothing sizes have changed a little, but I am actually 2 ENTIRE clothing sizes smaller, part of this I attribute to the fact that clothes are a tad bigger, but a lot of it I think is due to the fact that I have exercised the weight off this time, I am way tighter and smaller and more muscular than I was at 28.

I didnt keep any of my clothing from when I was this small so I cant really compare the way you can but I think my shape is different. I still have a ghetto booty though so there is some consistency :tt2:

The first place i noticed weight lass was in the bust. I had to go down two bra sizes to have comfortable fit. Not exactly the first place I was looking to lose it from! But my hubby can tell also now and I have lost 26 lbs. I am fitting into the next size smaller now which i had in the closet still! I think I need to learn to alter my clothing.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
