Hiatal Hernia Repair - Help

Recommended Posts

I got my hiatal hernia (which I didn't even know I had) repaired when my band was put in last Thursday the 17th. Some of the gas and suture pain is letting up but I have a fairly constant burn in the center of my chest. Does that have anyhting to do with fixing the hernia and putting in the lap-band together?

Thanks

Hi There, first of all, congratulations on getting your band done - sorry to hear about the hernia, but glad for you that its fixed.

I think you should ring your doctor to ask about the chest pain - put your mind at ease.

I got banded on tuesday and had the same problem, they said my hiatal hernia was HUGE and thank goodness they fixed that up for me.

Yes i do think we get extra pain, i had the same pain for about 5 days today it seems to hardly be there today so i think i'm getting better YAY!... i say that you should give it a week if you're still in pain give your doctor a call but i'm sure you'll be fine and on your way to loosing weight successfully :tongue_smilie:

Hi, I was banded on April 9th and had a Hernia repair. I also experienced alot of pain in the centre of my chest. I think it is part of the healing process we go through as my pain has now gone away.

I was banded last November and also had a hernia repair( which lasted about 3 weeks grr) but yea, the burning pain was closer over my heart and kind of into my shoulder. Everyone said it was gas or it would hurt only when I had enough to eat but it eventually went away.

Hi Jeen:

I had a hernia repair last year when I was banded. I believe that when they fix your hiatal hernia they sew some mesh in there. I recall having some pulling and alot of pain in the center too. However, I think it's so close to where my port is I'm not sure if it was hernia pain or port pain.

Hope you feel better soon.

Sue

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
