When one hits while you are on post op it can be a challenge!! Being unable to eat....but once you progress to a normal diet, it is not a big deal at all.

I do not make a difference in the things I eat, simply in the quantity I eat. These days I will ignore the dinner rolls alltogether, they just do not interest me. I can eat the bread, but I have to do it very slowly, and they take up a lot of room, without being my favorite thing anyway!

For Thanksgiving, I had the turkey, and dressing and potatoes, as well as a few spoons of different sides we had----I did not finish everything I put on my plate, and I was as full as I ever was after a holiday meal!!!

We sat around and laughed and caught up with the family, and I did not miss the quantities of food I had put away. It simply did not seem any different to me.

Easter was just here---we did a Prime Rib. I had it, and we made some twice baked potatoes---I had a couple of bites of one of them, and some veggies.

The biggest difference, is I no longer focus on the food so much as the activities. I ate, and was outside hiding eggs for the kids, and playing croquet with them---then we went for a ride....I no longer just hung out around the food tables.

It feels normal---I just don't eat as much by far.

thanks kat,

yea thats what i'm hoping....that once i'm banded food won't seem so important to me anymore. i can't wait for things not to center around food.

Kat,

I have been wondering about the holidays too. I am so glad you posted what you eat over a special holiday. I haven't had the lap band surgery yet...still in the begining stages of getting my paper work done and all, but I am so looking forward to it. Any other words of wisdom you could share?

Robin

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
