Smooth sailing on day 4.....I never thought I'd say this BUT, this isn't hard. After those first 2 days I've been really okay with this. I'm not really hungry, I've lost 6lbs and I'm just overall happy and ready for surgery. I'm feeling very calm. Most of my uneasiness regarding surgery had to do with worrying about my liquid diet. Oh and one more thing.........

I LOVE THIS SITE!!!!!

Wow you are doing great! Getting closer too! The liquid diet is getting a little bit easier for me too. The only really hard parts is mainly when I'm eating (drinking) dinner with other people and it's something that I like, then it's like I think gosh, it won't be until the middle of May before I get something even remotely close to that again! But I went to the doctor yesterday, and I was down 9 lbs. since last Tuesday, so I'm hoping that the weight loss continues.

Are you getting excited?

Hello new to the site to be banded on May 5th, I notice that yall are all talking about a liquid diet prior to surgery. I,m in Alabama and the dietician I met with has said nothing about a liquid diet. Just wondering if I need to call my doctor.

Hello sheemac32 and others. Make sure you read up on pages 1 & 2 becuase they are talking about why you need the liquid diet. I am a total newbie, but from what I've read it depends on how much weight you need to lose, but the smaller the liver the easier the surgery, so if I were you I would just ask and see what your Dr says. Better safe than sorry huh? I've gotten hope from the others doing ok on the liquid diet, you go girls! (and boys if any.) All the best.. 19 days yea!

I am going to Dr.Robbins In Dothan Alabama. I live about 20mins from there, I'll have to stay over night. But your right I think the liquid diet really sounds much better before so you won't have problems after words especially with gas. Thanks for the reply. So far this site in the past two days has really settled me down.

I have been on my liquid diet since April 10 & my surgery is the 23rd. I have also been sick with bronchitis since April 10. Today, however, when I got out of the pulmonary dr's office (i passed with flying colors) I went to tumbleweed & had a bean burrito. This is the first thing I've had since last week. Wonder how bad it will hurt? Getting a lot of second thoughts about surgery.

Hey... This is my first post on this board but I've been reading it for the past few months. I'm scheduled (tentatively) for April 30, and I started my pre-op diet yesterday.

My nutritionist has me on two Protein shakes a day and one sensible meal. My understanding from my doctor that the purpose of the diet is to shrink the liver to make the surgery easier to perform.

What impact do you all think having a few drinks will have? My wife wants to meet with me and her friends tomorrow to Celebrate her first week at a new job I don't know if I have the will power to go and not order a drink or two.

Deband...what does your Dr. say? You should really check with them and see what they recommend. Also you have to ask yourself are those drinks worth it? Only you can decide that... It's all up to you man, cause you have to live with the consequences, right...(Don't you love it when people really don't help you make a decision and say its up to you??? Ha ha ahaha.)

In other words does doing what you did in the past still work for you? If not then change, if yes then keep doing it, right?

Just slow down and ponder these questions, you are in control, you will make the right decision...ok enough with that...don't do it alcohol is just empty calories.. there -good luck with your choice...We support you no matter what... :tt1:) JaJeanne

hello, Every body. I don't think the bean burrito hurt. The liquid diet or even like my doctor put me on a low carb diet not as strict as like Atkins. That what I was wondering yesterday cause they have said nothing about any amount of days in liquids. Yes it all about shrinking the liver because they have to raise your liver up to get to the neck of your stomach and if it is to larger it will flopp down. As for having drinks with your wife, liqour is natural just have one or two mix with diet soda, I was told no beer do to the carbs and not to have them everyday. Love this site. Thanks yall:redface:Sheemac

This 5 days will pass before you know it! Then, you can move on to the post-op board and leave all of us still here waiting on a date in your dust. :D

Good luck!

I am beinging required to start a two protien shakes and a dinner (with protien) only 9 days before surgery. After seven days of that, the last two days are liquid only. I am being banded on the 28th of this month and looking forward to it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
