How many ounces of full liquid are you allowed?

Recommended Posts

For five weeks I am on a full liquid diet. I was told by the dietician, three 2 oz "meals" with Protein "shakes" in between. That's 6 ounces of food for the day plus shakes. I think I got a little over zealous and had about 8 ounces of full liquids, (4 oz grits, 2 oz applesauce, 2 oz pudding). My protein is concentrated, because I hate protein supplements, and is only 4.5 ounces for the whole day. I also kept forgetting not to drink. After each "meal" I went straight for a sip of Water. It's such a habit. I feel guilty. I spaced everything out well, but I suppose I should have skipped the last 2 ounces of pudding and followed my drinking schedule. I will be better tomorrow. This is all so different. Also, when I eat and drink I burp a lot. Is this normal? I have only been banded since Monday and I still feel a little gassy. But, I worry that too much burping might be bad for the band. Just regular burps, not pb's. Lovely. Advice welcomed.

Hi Chelsey,

Welcome to the LOSER'S BENCH!!! What a great place to be, right? All the doctors are different about post surgery meals. For instance, for me I had to do 4 days of Clear Liquids, 3 days of full liquids, 3 days of blended and then on to stage 4, which is regular food. I couldn't eat grits, applesauce or anything like that in my diet. I could or can, when I get my fills eat sf Jello, sf popsicles, Carb Master yogurt(which is high in protein) and things like that. I have found a real good protein that I love and have been on since April 07. It's called Body Fortress. You can find it at Wal-Mart and it's usually around $15 for a 2 lb jug. It taste like a chocolate milkshake....my favorite!! I know what you're thinking, "It comes from Wally World it can't be good!!" But, it is and I've had good results with it too.

As far as the burping goes after you have Lap Band....that's NORMAL!! I belch and burp all the time now and they don't hurt the band, BTW. You have to get in at least 64ozs of Water, or fluids a day. You have to stay hydrated!! Believe me it's no fun getting dehydrated, it happened to me right after surgery. I was in the hospital for another week after I went home.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
