Breakfast ideas please

Recommended Posts

I'm on regular foods, but I'm in a rut at breakfast. I kind of rotate the following: Protein Shake, veggie omlette, cottage cheese and fruit, scrambled eggs, cream of wheat.

Any good, low calorie/low carb breakfast ideas?

Do you work or at home during the day

I have sf yogurt & low fat 1/4 c granola most days - oatmeal - and who says you have to eat breakfast food for breakfast - I have had 1/2 ham sandwich on lite bread with cheese or 1/2 Peanutbutter sandwich (but I can eat bread just very slowly) - Moringstar sausage - I have had raisin bran & skim milk 1/2 c or cheerios.

I just dont eat muffins - donuts anymore

mmmm greek yogurt (has lots of protein) with fruit and a bit of granola is my favorite breakfast. I agree with IndioGirl also... you dont have to eat breakfast foods for breakfast. Try leftovers from dinner... chicken and veggies in an omelet is yum!

I work at home doing daycare.

I'll have to try adding some granola to my yogurt. I buy organic plain yogurt. It's the closest thing to the greek yogurt you can get in more populated areas. (I'm in a rural area.) I like the yogurt with a bit of orange juice concentrate stirred in.

I like doing canadian bacon, egg & low-fat provolone, with a half of a very crisp whole-wheat english muffin ... Healthier version of an Egg McMuffin :-)

With a whole large egg, 2 slices of Canadian Bacon, 1 slice Reduced Fat Provolone, 1/2 Whole-Wheat English Muffin, the breakdown is:

234 Calories, 10g Fat, 14g Carb, 22g Protein

With 1 Large Egg White instead of whole egg, + all other ingredients as mentioned, the breakdown is:

176 Calories, 5g Fat, 14g Carb, 19g Protein

I'm not much of a solid b'fast eater, but I eat b'fast foods later in the day.

Those premade sausage, egg, and cheese croissants/biscuits in the freezer aisle at grocery stores.. I take those off the bread and nuke em.. Me likey.

Now that sounds good. I have been using egg substitute instead of real eggs (unless I'm eating egg salad). That would drop the about 40 calories off. Thanks for the idea!!

I almost always have a whey Protein Shake with a banana, a splash of flax seed oil and a Tbsp of psillium husk. It keeps me satisfied and gives me all the nutrients I need to start my day.

Sounds as though you have a good repetoire....good for you.

This is an older WW recipe that is filling and easy to make. I usually cannot finish one serving in one sitting so I cut that in half and have it later.

ALMOST PIE

(4 servings/6 points per serving)

4 eggs

2 cups skim milk

4 tablespoons diet margarine

1-1/2 tsp. Vanilla

½ tsp. Coconut flavoring

¼ cup flour

2 slices white bread

Dash of salt (optional)

½ cup Splenda

Place all ingredients into a blender. Count to 10 slowly while blending.

Spray pie pan with Pam. Pour into pie pan.

Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

This is weird but soooo good, it is called Bircher Muslei....it is a cold oatmeal dish that you can make ahead of time. Just search on google for recipes for the exact ingredients but here is what I do:

Take a tupperware container and put 3 cups of dry oatmeal in it. Cover with non fat milk, 2 tsp of vanilla extract and a 1/4 cup of orange juice. Chill in fridge at least overnight.

The next morning I take a 1/4 cup of the 'oatmeal' mixture, 1/4 cup of greek yogurt or any other non fat plain yogurt, 5-6 fresh berries, 1 TBL slivered almonds and maybe a packet or two of splenda. I sometimes add some fat free half and half. Stir and enjoy.

It is really good, easy for me since I work long hours, I have a weeks worth of breakfast made in a snap. Try it.

If you have a weight watchers recipe book, look up their pumpkin muffins. they are light and fluffy, FULL of nutrients and so YUMMY!!! They are also low in calories. 2 muffins are a serving, so if you can only eat one, you're doing great!

I like Quaker's Weight Control oatmeal. It's instant and comes in cinnamon and banana bread flavor. It has 9 grams of Protein already in it, and I add half a scoop of unflavored Protein powder to get a total of 17 grams of Protein. I have that with a few strawberries.

If you have any brown rice left over from the night before, add some beaten egg and skim milk, cinnamon, vanilla and some sweetner and bake it for a nutty rice pudding. I even throw in a few raisins. When cooked they are soft and easy to get down. YUM!!! I cook them in the 1 cup pyrex ramekins. It will usually make 3 or 4 so I have breakfast for a few days if my family doesn't steal them.....

part skim ricotta cheese makes a nice change from cottage cheese. Crepes are low in calorie and if you add a little cinnamon and sweetner to the ricotta it makes a nice blintz with some fresh berries.

poached eggs on a bed of steamed spinach with a bit of grated cheese on top is nice too.

I like to make a NICE breakfast on the weekends. I get tired of the usual quickie breakfasts too. BORING.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
