Lap band & chocolate??

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am not suitable for a bypass, and wondered if any of you have a lap-band and a chocolate addiction, and how you are getting on.

Please share youe experiences with me to help me make up my mind what to do.

Thanks

I have a lap band and a chocolate and sweets addiction. I have lost 6.5 stones since June 2007. However a lot of surgeons will not do the lapband on people with a sweet tooth because the band does not stop you eating rubbish, it justs stops you from eating a lot of rubbish. I decided that the best way for me was to cut out sweet things altogether and this is what I have done except for a couple of months whilst I was on holiday in Australia. I found it was not too bad because when you first have the band you you do not feel like eating much anyway so this is a good time to start not eating sweet things. It then gets easier to avoid them. I also cut out all alcohol because that is full of sugar as well. I do, however, eat fruit and I do not scrutinise everything to find out if it has some sugar in it. It does get easier the more you do it. That is my experience anyway. I do understand that everyone if different and they have to do what is best for them

I think the lap band is the best thing I have ever done with regard to weight loss, I only wish I had done it a lot sooner.

Good luck with your weight loss

I will be honest and I know a few will think BAD girl...

I had my op last june 07 and have lost 6 stone also, and all I eat is chocolate most of the time as I know I wont be sick on it. I cant eat loads and really I should try and stop as I am getting into bad habits, and the weight would come off quicker if I stopped but I just want somthing to eat some times.

Bad I know sorry............

chocolate used to be my comfort food and now it has kind of turned into a necessity once a month. I have really started to hate chocolate!

I think the chocolate issue is a very personal one. I know that I am a bad girl sometimes but I also know that I am only about 1/8th of the bad girl I used to be. The band allows only so much before it protests, but since this last fill, all the junk stuff has been drastically reduced. Ironically, I think I have hit my sweet spot lol.

Chocolate addiction is just like any other addiction, you can quit if you really, REALLY want to.

If you don't think you can reduce your chocolate intake, then you should seriously conisder your options. A band is a tool not a miracle cure, but it can be a miracle maker for your health and happiness. For me it is the best thing I have ever done, apart from having my son!

I hope this helps a little, the key thing is to be honest with yourself.

Dear liberty s you have been very inspirational to me on this site - often I just browse through esp when feeling a bit low and I always find your words very wise - so thankyou for that! I feel like I was probably tightened too much - but as it took so long and a flipped port before I got a fill I am loathe to have a defill - also am with The Hospital Group who have been rubbish! However my question is why oh why does all the junk (sweets chocs & biscuits) go down so easily when good wholesome food - like this omlete I'm trying to savour for Breakfast - why does that all get clogged up :-(`

Aww thank you Annie, I'm glad I can help. This site is brilliant for reassurance and knowledge. You don't think you will need it once you have the band but it's firmly stuck in my favourites. Even though I don't visit as often.

I've got a flipped port, I blame it on me playing with it, a bit like a child with their belly button lol. The doc knows how to deal with it now, it's a case of up and under instead of straight in.

As for junk food being easy to consume, I can only guess that it is because it's constituted mush, which breaks down to liquid quickly and easily. I think I might ask my specialist next time I see him.

It is frustrating when you can't eat decent, healthy food. It drives me to distraction. It is always T.O.M that I have the greatest difficulty in eating, even chocolate isn't working at the moment.

I'm like you I'm loathe to go for an unfill but starving myself is not a healthy thing to do, especially as it's not intentional! Besides the chances are if we have a slight unfill it may just help us lose weight instead of being stuck. Although I think I may have lost some weight but being TOM it's hard to tell. But, my scales suggest I have lost a lb so in theory that equate to 2lbs because of Fluid retention etc etc. if that is the case I am now in the 12 stone zone...only just lol.

Omelette is the best and worse thing to eat. It fills you up very quickly and then takes ages to break down into the rest of the stomach. My doc advised to eat egg when you are feeling you need another fill. Egg can work a bit like the band keeping you fuller for longer.

I've been trying to eat salad which I love but the compost bin is getting most of it!;)

Think it might be time to hit the liquid viatmins!

Lets hope it gets better!

Hugs

Suzy

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
