How much weight can you really lose? How fast?

Recommended Posts

I am exactly 6 months out and I have lost 34 pounds (48% of my goal) so I feel pretty good about it. Now starting to exercise more.

I lost a pound a week, no exercise, no weight gains, just slow and steady. I started with a BMI of 38 so my dr warned me that the weightloss would be slower.

Word to the wise - dont compare to others, you will be miserable, I was and I have finally started to be happy for others and be grateful for my losses.

My doc told me that 1-2 pounds a week is successful. I was told I would average 8-10 pounds a month at first and as I get closer, it would slow down and I would have to work harder for it.

I lost 100lbs before surgery and I have lost 132lbs after surgery for a total of 232lbs. I've gone from 409 to 177. It has been over 5 years of weight loss and 3 1/2 since surgery. I,m a 6'3" male so I have lost all my excess weight, but it takes time. It took me 40 years to gain it so it is OK to take some time to loss it.

I am 4 days from my 1 year bandiversary, I have lost 102lbs/66% excess body weight. The past month I have been stalled due to restriction miraculously disappearing at the 100lb mark (how weird is that??). Just got a new fill and back to losing 2lbs a week!!)

Everyone is different, is key. You may not be typical of any one elses results, so I think it's setting you up for failure to compare yourself to someone before you even begin. Enjoy the ride!! Remember '2lbs a week' loss, does not mean literally 2lb a week necessarily. For the first 6 months, I had 1 month of gain, and 1 month of not moving 1lb, but on 'average' I was exactly at 2lb a week.

Hi!

My first two months, I didn't lose much (because I had no restriction). However, if I average my weight loss since September when I had the surgery, I lose about ten pounds per month. It comes out to 2-3 pounds per week. Sometimes it's less (that TOM I usually gain!) and sometimes it's more. I've lost 4 pounds in a week and I've GAINED 4 pounds in a week (TOM sucks!) I started at 290 though and I'm 5'6". I know that where you begin makes a difference. You can look at my ticker below to see where I am now :-)

How tall are you and what do you weight right now?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
