The Lurker got a surgery date!

Recommended Posts

I'm a lurker on here, reading everything so that I can be ready for the process. I went to a seminar in February, did my psych eval in late February, my nutrition counseling in March, and everything was submitted to my insurance in late March. The approval just came through yesterday! I cut out caffeine in March.

My surgery is set for May 21st at 7:30 am. I had to put it off for over a month so that I can get everything set up for work so that I can be off for a few days. With the memorial day holiday the next weekend, I even get one extra day off without needing to use that day as sick leave.

The worst part is that my husband absolutely needs to be at work that day, so I'm going to have my son take me. We'll probably go up the night before to stay at a hotel so that we don't have to drive as far on surgery morning.

I have over a month to taste test different Protein Shakes, and to get in my two support groups. Oh, and a month to stress out that I'll forget something! :scared2::lol:

Congrats on your date!!!! I will be getting banded on May 12th and I know what you mean about stressing and forgetting something. That is a fear of mine, forgetting something I am going to need! Again congrats!!!!

Thanks for coming out into the light! Congrats on your surgery date. While you are trying shakes - I highly recommend chocolate flavored Muscle Milk, especially if you are looking for something pre-mixed.

That's funny because I have been doing the same thing! I ordered some samples online and have slowly been going through them. Definitely something I felt I should do before I HAVE to start drinking them. Congratulations and good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
