Does Working-out before surgery help heal u faster?

Recommended Posts

Just like I posted in my last thread. I don't know why I stopped working out, I guess not wanting to loose to much too fast and them saying that I didn't need the procedure done. But since it is taking so long I am getting really pissed off at myself for not working out. So i'm going to get back on track A.S.A.P. Now from your experience does working-out help you heal faster vs not being active? I am more determined to get this freekin fat off more than ever.

I know for myself the second time I had my procedure I was in much better shape and recovery time was a lot quicker and easier. The key is also to be active right after surgery if you're able. Sitting on your ass will not help you get better quicker :glare:

mstrina,

How are you on your approval? Are you still waiting for your insurance to approve? You should heal very fast after your surgery because you are dedicated to the healthy lifestyle by working out. I hope you hear something soon. Just call and bug your insurance company or have your doctor do it. Anyway, good luck we are all here and praying for you to get the "call". Hang in there and let us know. Lots of hugs to you.

Definitely, being fit always means you'll heal better. Not necessarily better than the next person, but better than you otherwise would have.

I also felt quite strongly about the fact that the minute I made a decision to have the surgery, I was changing my life and leaving the old me behind. So for months I worked out regularly and ate well (not dieted, but ate well and avoided that last supper mentality). I found the surgery seriously the easiest surgery I've had, I didnt need pain meds other than the day of surgery and I was walking a few miles the next day.

Then again, I'm seriously a bit weird, I dont think having a baby hurts all that much, lol.

Well thank u verry much... Actually I called and I was livid at the place that should have faxed or mailed my records like 2-weeks ago but their office is only open on Mondays and Thursdays... I called yesterday and spoke with a male.. and Thank God for him... No pun intended... but the younger ladies thought it was a joke like... uhhhh we sent it.. and uh call us tomorrow when they knew they would be closed... lol.. I was like oh ok u got me this time but just u wait.. then I would forget to call...lol.. horriable... but nevertheless.. they finally got the fax on yesterday... So the young lady told me that I should hear from her with an update of some sort by thursday...so plz.... keep your fingers crossed for me.... One of the Supervisors where I work said that she had to take a look like 2-or 3x's becasue she did not know if it was me or not.. she was like how much weight have u loss.. and i was like really.... can u tell that im loosing weight??? I haven't told anyone that I am doing it i have tried to drop the subject...I guess i must be doing pretty well...

keep losing, keep after the ins company, and keep working out!! the better shape you're in b-4 surgery will really help with recovery (at least that's what I'm telling myself.

I am a self-pay, so I don't know the insurance co details, but I thought that they go by your weight when you first apply, and any weight you lose just show's how committed you are. (?)

Good luck to you!

Arrrgh...I went through the same thing with my cardiologist, MsT. Finally, I decided that I'd waited and been nice long enough and called them every 90 minutes one day. "Hi...was just calling to see if you sent that yet." "Would you like me to run down there and pick it up?"

Frustrating. And from a cardio office? They know surgeries are waiting on them.

My family has been on a lifestyle change since the 18th of January. The five of us have lost 132 lbs. :thumbup:I have lost 29. I get that same response of "just keep doing what your are doing". :( So tired of everyone voicing their opinions about my body!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
