So Close But Yet So Far!

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone! The doctor office called today and informed me they had received approval for my surgery. She stated once she receive my approval code (Clueless) she will call me back and set up my consultation in a couple of days. Although I'm excited I still feel like I'm so close to having the band but yet so far from having it.

I decided I would now start preparing myself for it. Any suggestions are more then welcome. Thanks for listening!

Well you've definitely gotten over the highest hurdle if your doctor has your Insurance approval!!! You should be doing a dance of celebration. Your surgeon's office should be calling you to schedule you a surgery date and then pre-admission testing about a week before that, and BOOM -- you're in bandster land!

Hi SpecialK! Thank you for replying. I knew my insurance would approve it but just hearing them tell the doctor somehow made a big difference to me. The doctor that performs the lap band is very popular here so I'm hoping I can get in this month. I am indeed very excited. How are things going for you now that you have the band?

You have definitely already passed the test most of us live in fear of - attaining insurance approval! Now that they have that, they will probably get all of your pre-op tests done pretty quickly. With no comorbidities, I had everything except my psych eval done in one day! Now, you should probably start by asking your doctor what his post-op diet restrictions are and stocking up on supplies. There is an excellent thread here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f218/first-few-weeks-after-lap-band-surgery-58227/ you might want to check out too. Good luck to you and keep us posted on how you are doing.

My name is Jackie and I had my band done this past Thursday by Dr. Douglas Krahn from St. Bernardines Hospital. Still really sore, but I am home now to start the journey.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
