Making it through diet restrictions

Recommended Posts

Hello All. I am 55 yo. I had my psych eval on Tues 4/8 and the therapist told me to try and eat like I would have to eat after having the surgery; that is: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner with no Snacks, chew 30 times, no Water 1/2 hour before eating or 1 hour after eating, no bread, Beans, etc and also the small amount that can fit in the "new" stomach after the surgery. So yesterday I ate 3/4 of an english muffin for breakfast with some Peanut Butter, lunch was a 260 calorie Lean Cuisine and by dinner time, I was ready to bite someone's head off! I had bacon and eggs for dinner! Probably not diet approved. I can't bear the thought of never eating ice cream again, or beans, or a beer now and again, or nuts, or lots of other stuff. Is it really THAT restrictive after you have the band placed?

Reconsidering,

Denise:huh2:,:confused2:

What she told you is how you will probably want to eat after you get good restriction. Of course you can still have the things you love. Just not as much as before.

Biting someone's head off - um, were you planning on eating it??

Once you are banded and at your 'sweet spot', the amount of food you will need to be 'full' will be less. Of course you are hungry now as you haven't yet been banded so your stomach is used to more, more and more food.

The nutritionist is trying to get you to eat this way now so that it will be second nature by the time you are banded thereby minimizing the overall adjustments and stress.

Reading the many posts on this site and others, most long-time banders consistently say they eat what they want, just less of it. Some seem to have one or 2 foods that are problematic, but not entire groups of foods.

Good luck on your journey, whatever your decision.

You can't bear the thought of never eating ice cream again?

If never again eating ice cream was the worst thing that happened to you, it wouldn't be so bad, would it?

Of course you can eat ice cream, but you probably wouldn't choose to, because it's a horrible food choice.

You will pretty much be able to eat as normal just small amounts.

I think in our minds we build it up to be something much worse than it is. If I could be thin in exchange for giving up ice cream (and I love it, trust me) - I would give it up in a flash.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
