I finally had a fill! YEAH!

Recommended Posts

Went in last night and the dr gave me my first fill. Man what a weird feeling that was and holy crap that is a long needle! It really didn't hurt but just looking at that sucker freaked me out a little! She put 3cc's in the start and when I tried to drink Water it wouldn't go down so she went back down to 2 cc's. I am supposed to go back in a month or so for an adjustment if needed. She told me to be on fluids for 48 hours - which seems like a long time - but I am not even hungry although my last meal was yesterday at lunchtime! I may change my tune by the end of the day today, but so far so good!

PS - She said I have lost -24, and I only had myself down as -20! I like her number better, but I am still going to go by my scale after I weigh in on Wednesday like I do every week.

Congratulations on the weight loss! That is excellent! Try to stay on those liquids for the next day or so - it will help your stomach heal from the adjustment.

I actually like going on liquids after a fill - I can always count on losing around 5 lbs that week because I'm returning basically to the pre-op diet for a few days!

Thanks for sharing the size of the needle. I have only been banded a week so I have 6 weeks to go until my frist fill and I'm scared to death of needles. LOL

Sorry if I scared you! I was really surprised that it didn't hurt! Keep that in mind. I have heard on here about a lot of people who have the area numbed first - I didn't and it really didn't hurt at all....seriously it is a very THIN needle (according to my doc) so it didn't hurt at all and I am a total wimp!

HeeHee! You can ask to have the area numbed - my doc does it and I'm glad for it. It's not the size of the needle that bothers me - it's the possibility that they might have to try more than once to hit the port. Eek! And if he's going to dig around in there - I'd prefer to be numbed.

If you want to see how a fill goes - we are taping my adjustment tomorrow afternoon for my video blog and I'll try to have it up on youtube by Friday.

I loved your video blog, I never thought of doing something like that. It's taken me 9 months to get through ths whole process and get approved by insurance, so my blog would have been long and probably showen my frustration. But it's all been worth it so far. It's only been a week and I'm ready to go back to work because I'm so bored with daytime TV. So I'm going back on Monday. I feel pretty good and not hungery yet. I'll see how the mushies stage goes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
