Contact the Obesity Control Centre...OCC has a forum as well, and I have heard nothing but wonderful experiences from everyone..Dr. Ortiz is the main surgeon that everyone raves about. He is in TJ and the service is amazing.

I had surgery on 3/25 with Dr. Ortiz at the OCC, he and his staff did a wonderful job and I was throughly satisfied and would recommend his facility, as for cosmos110, people have bad experiences everywhere, I'm from canada, live in the us and went to mexico for surgery but truth be told I'd go to europe or cuba too, there are many competent doc's living in other countries and the health system here in the us is hardly the be all and end all. I find it hard to believe that if you were having so many problems and would have gone to an er that they would have said sorry go back to mexico. Furthermore cosmos110, what Walmart are you going to that offers fills?

Does anyone have a suggestion for a doctor in Mexico? Please - I am trying to do my research. I just feel so lost.

Thanks!!:)

Most will recommend their surgeons. That is unless they had a problem. I would suggest asking which ones are not recommended.

Hello. I'm fighting a lone battle here. Up above in my other post is the story of how I paid close to $20,000 USD for a band in Monterrey, Dr. Arturo Rodriguez. Thats the band, several trips to Monterrey etc. I was debanded after a year from what was a clear case of faulty installation.

Talk to the people who do fills here in the USA. They'll tell you that it's crazy to go for serious surgery in a place where you can't drink the Water. I have no legal recourse. My money is gone and the only thing I gained is more weight. Which I'm still gaining.

I'm reading these replys and I'm convinced that the majority of the replys are cayotes. The people who are paid a percentage for each customer they get. All the Mexican doctors have them. What possible reason would I have to lie to you. I'm passoniate about the bad decision I made. I'd give anything to back up the clock and get a good doctor here.

Talk to some fill centers. Fill center USA. Or any of them. They'll tell you.

Good Luck

I don't know about you. Dr. Arturo Rodriguez does not charge $20K for a band. He charges over 50% less than that.

On one hand you talk about how he was at fault and messed things up and in the next post you have nothing but praise for him.

FillCenterUSA was started by a Mexican doc. They mostly fill Mexican bands. Not sure why they would suggest you not go to Mexico when 99.9% of the people come home from there just fine and without folks like us, FillCenterUSA wouldn't be in business.

I've been to a FillCenterUSA place before and they most certainly do NOT "all" tell you not to go to Mexico. The fill person here in Phoenix was banded by Kuri... in Mexico. She sends her patients to Mexico all the time.

Most rational folks know that just because there is one problem doctor that does not mean an entire country's medical system is poor.

You claim that you were unable to get your band removed by a US doc. I'll take your word for it but you are the first. Many docs will not fill Mexican bands but you are the first I have heard where they won't remove it. Yet your medical provider would fill it (the problems they claim they have are fills, not surgery) but not remove it.

You never came here before or during your banding but come here for the first time just to slam dunk ALL of Mexico.

You claim you are fighting a lone battle. You don't have a band anymore, what are you fighting? People going to Mexico? If you want to be anti-Mexico OH is always available for you. Most here are pretty pro Mexico even if they didn't have surgery there. Maybe the reason you are fighting a lone battle is because you are wrong.

Yep, I agree with you. Something is fishy and I don't believe it is everyone "else".

Cheers.

I use Dr. Arturo Rodriguez and he was a WONDERFUL doctor. He only charages $7,900. In fact, on of his patients, MELVA is on the realize band website as a sucess story. (The Johnson and Johnson lapband just approved in the U.S.) Read Gastric Banding Success Stories - REALIZEBand.com Dr. Rodriguez was one of the kindest, most caring doctors that has ever treated me. As was his staff. He changed my life and I am forever grateful to him!

Thanks!!:blush:

I had mind done in mexico just right out side of el paso tx march 18th 2008 i went through belitemexico.com in it is a good hospital, brand new they have pic's to show you the hospital and the doctors and you'll enjoy looking at all the fine men that work there if you go send them my love. very nice people and the doctors speak english too and most of the nurse's you'll enjoy and im doing fine the only thing is its hard to find a doctor in the US that will do your fills and make sure if you do find one to do them you must have aleast 2000 dollars a year for your fills or go back to mexico to do your fills for free for life right now im having a hard time trying to find someone to do my fills that are not to far away and cheap! so good luck by the way the surgery is not to painful and the recovery time is not to long.:sad_smile::scared2:

I don't like slamming good people. Arturo Rodriguez is a fine fellow and I know he has done a lot of good work.

Lap Band $10,500

transportation to Monterrey $1,100 for two trips

$1,200 worth of fills

$ 600 Endoscopy

$ 2,000 Pnumonia related

$ 2,500 debanding

I rounded it off to $20,000

The only reason I am telling this story is If I had heard it before I went to Mexico, I might not have done it. God I wish I hadn't. I hear all the success stories. I'm not one of them. I'm broke and no hope of getting another band.

When Arturo decided to deband me there was no fear of malpratice. Thats not how things work in Mexico. Not your lucky day.

If you decide to go to Mexico, I wish you the best of luck. I don't want to see anybody else in my position.

Good Luck with your decision

I went to the seminar here in Boise Idaho. If the surgeries are done in Mexico alot of Dr's wont touch the lapband. Yes I gues it is the malpractice. I cant blame them. My Dr said that there are alot of mistakes. I love having my surgery done here I dont need to fly to Mexico if something is going on. I have called the Office many times to ask questions they are so helpful. I would go with the hospital nearest to your house.

      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
