Problems with Fills - Not staying full

Recommended Posts

I have had 3 fills since my surgery and I have never been to the point where I can eat 4 ounces of food and be completely full. I usually can consume about 5 ounces of food and within 3 hours I am hungry or at least want something to nibble on like cheese or a piece of fruit. I think that when my Doctor gives me my fills that they don't allow me to get a good fill. I know that they monitor to see if I swallow all of the liquid so I believe that I am not swallowing properly as I am unable to gulp any beverage (barium Water or anything). They tell you not to gulp but then when I get the fill they want me to gulp and so the drink stays in my throat for a few seconds which is making them think that I am tight but I never really am because I end up hungry. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get the liquid down in a timely fashion to get more ccs in my band. I only have 2 ccs to date. I think this will aid in my weightloss as I am not losing even one pound a week.

I have had 4 fills and have about 6 cc in a 12 cc band. I can eat more than 4 oz, but I noticed when my band is really tight (a few days after a fill) I am uncomfortable and gassy....If you can only eat 5 oz and stay full for 3 hours, that sounds about just right!

I have really good restriction and I can eat more than 4 ounces. The point is to eat until you are satisfied and the amount can really vary depending on what food you are eating. Don't get too hung up on numbers. Try to listen to the signs your body is giving you and get used to knowing when you have eaten enough. It is important to eat enough because that is how you stay full until the next meal. I can eat 8 ounces of yogurt and 1/2 cup of berries with about 1/4 cup of Cereal mixed in. Technically that is 1 and 3/4 cups of food, but the yogurt isn't dense so doesn't really take up as much room as 1 cup of chicken or vegetables would. So go by how you feel. Measuring and weighing are good for getting a handle on calories once in a while to see if you are overdoing it, but generally you shouldn't strictly go by measuring because it is so variable.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
