Hello from South Carolina

Great news from my doctor. All of my labs are fine, and my blood pressure is managed enough that he will do the surgery. I have a surgery date!! It's July 14, 2008.:-) I will post again when I start my liquid diet, and add a ticker at that time. Thanks to everyone who prayed that I would get cleared for surgery...Have a blessed day, Randall

Hey Randall! I was really very fortunate that I didn't have any complications. None of the dreaded gas pain or anything like that. I was on the pediatric floor (all of the Bariatric beds were full between surgeries on the day of mine and the next and I could fit in a regular bed comfortably, so they put me in one), so I couldn't get up and walk the halls very much, but on the plus side, had a bigger room and could move around in there just fine. One thing I would suggest though - try to use the bathroom before your pain shots! I know I couldn't get out of bad when they gave me the first shot, so that wasn't an option then. But the pain shots go on a 4 hour rotation if you don't have a pain pump, so by the next one, I was ok. Only I waited until after I had it and then couldn't go! I ended up getting cathed twice before they figured out maybe I should go before the drugs and then everyting was ok! Also, beware hospital food! Once I was able to order a tray the day after surgery, the "broth" they sent me was so greasy it literally made me sick! And dilute your juice. The nurse brought me apple juice with my liquid meds and it was too sweet. I diluted it half and half with Water and it was ok.

Also, try not to get discouraged if the weight stops coming off for a couple of days. It will pick back up. Remember, that is likely to happen as you move through your stages of eating post-op. Your body has to adjust and it may take a day or two. Try not to let it discourage you, as hard as that can be! Good luck!!

Hello, I am fine, and I hope that you are. I have three more days before my surgery..This liquid diet takes the weight off, I am down 12lbs in a week, just drinking the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury shakes. Does anyone have any other whey Protein shakes you are using? This one has 25G of whey Protein Isolate, and it taste very good...let me know if your using something similar, these are a little high in price. Have a great weekend everyone. Randall

During the pre-op diet I used Protein powder from Vitamin Shoppe but I can't remember the brand right now. I tried 3 flavors and liked the chocolate best. No problems because I was able to eat a small meal each day. I ended up getting some unjury myself and liked it. I've tried the chicken Soup, chocolate and unflavored. After my 1-week post-op liquid diet, though I haven't been able to bring myself to drink anymore Protein shakes. I tried the chicken Soup a couple of times after surgery. The first time was fine. The second and third time I almost gagged. Same with the unflavored. The chocolate is the only one I can do now. Don't know what happened.

I'm on soft foods now and getting plenty of Protein through real food again, thank goodness.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
