Losing too much weight - for me

Recommended Posts

Not offended at all shortgal. You are right. This is a scary time...as in uncertain. Everything I've read about the band talks about weightloss. But I really haven't gotten much information about what happens AFTER the weight loss.

I do know changing a lifestyle as bad as mine is a process. My doctor has, and continues to discuss this with me. Life is so much better today than yesterday, that's for sure.

Mentally dependent...good choice of words. I have relied on my band so much...and what I've done is secondary. And now that I'm on maintenace, I rely more on me than the band.

Thanks again.

Thank you both for your responses!

Grace: As I stated before, I am not yet banded so I cannot respond to your questions. I like to hear the experiences from the people at goal and do feel that I am (nor should be) banned to the Intro and Pre-Op threads. I am simply trying to understand this constant grief you have that you believe you are too thin, yet won't do anything to correct it. I feel that my "tone of voice" is being misunderstood. I am concerned about the malnutrition and your labs (I am a nurse). I am confused about your eating habits (posted by yourself) and I am curious why you won't address these issues with a professional instead of here?

Shortgal: I am grateful that you also recognize the strange behaviors and have also seen the other posts. I see that it can take time for some people to see the demons. I would hope that she has had a lot of support and encouragement here to get these issues addressed, but this is not the place for that kind of help. You are right, it's not making sense to me. I guess I'm frustrated compounded by the preop liquid diet! LOL

Turler, you've been wonderful. This may not be the place...but for me it's the only place.

I have no friends or family nearby. I'm in Utah while everyone is on the east coast. I moved here for my children to go to college. My doctor is 4 hours away.

So hearing what others go thru, not necessarily meaning that will be the way for me, well, it helps me put things in perspective. thanks again

I have said many times this is a WAR and we win some battles and lose some battles. Trust me, today I am losing my own battle and that's not usual for me since being banded and I'm struggling to understand it.

Our heads don't always keep up with the band and our weight loss, many of us have that challenge.

I think the fact that your Dr is not nearby and readily accessible for a small unfill and refill if needed, is part of the problem. It makes the decision harder to make.

I believe that if your diet is not including enough solid Protein, then you are too tight and you basically have lost weight by starvation not by restriction. You've lost all the weight you want and more, why not try to maintain the way the band was meant to work. Trust yourself that you can do it. You might have to change a few habits, but that is the whole point of the band from day 1. Maybe you just needed to take a different route to get there.

Let us know how you make out, we might be hard on you but I think you can see it's becasue we care about you being successful and healthy.

Grace:

I think you'd be surprised how many people really do care! There is a lot of good advice here, but nothing can take the place of your own doctors. They are in charge of your health because you gave them that job! There is a very real danger of low potassium. You could have a heart attack and die! That is far worse like Jachut said than being a little thinner than you'd care to be.

I'm getting banded because I don't do things right either so I can only preach so much. BUT, I am doing this to save my life. Didn't we all? Did you do this for the cute jeans you could wear? Or was it for the health benefit. Hey, it can be both, but ultimately, being 100 pounds overweight was a slow sure path to death. It's too bad you've not learned to change your eating habits. There is still time, but you need to get a dietician and work on this! I'm sure there is someone close to where you live that can monitor some of this in between your visits with your doctor. I just hope you can get a handle on this and get healthy. Looking good isn't worth it if you don't have your health.

TURLER: It is so hard to understand in a written post the "tone" of someone's words. I know you are not banded yet and I am not at goal yet, so we haven't completed our journey and both have more to learn about how to work with our bands for the long and short term.

So many phases to go through, pre-op, post op and then the long weight loss part, with bandster hell stuck in there, just for fun! I am so in bandster hell today. Craving everything and not enough fill to help. This is my worst day since being banded over 4 1/2 months ago. Why, I don't know. I've established very good eating habits and then wham! I am making healthy food choices but eating too much of them, too often.

Just another lesson to learn and figure out a plan to change it.

You'll be banded soon, too. Good for you... you're starting off with the right frame of mind... better health.

Grace, you've asked in your OP for advice on how to maintain and not lose any more weight. Most of the posters who have replied have said that same thing, and if you went to see a Dr I am almost certain they would say the same thing too - so let me point it out for you again in Jachuts post below:

Its very uncomplicated. If you're losing and you dont want to, have an unfill and eat more.

She is 100% right. Its not rocket science. And yes, you may be scared of an unfill, but are you more scared of "wasting away and getting too skinny" (which is where it sounds like you think you are headed)? If you get an unfill, you can always go back and get filled up again if you start to gain, such is the beauty of our adjustable bands! It appears that you are saying that weight is falling off you and you don't like it (I wish I were SO lucky!), so fix it, cos its really not that hard.

I don't know what kind of repsonse you are looking for, but it doesn't seem that you are content with the responses you have been given so far, even though they make complete (and pretty much the only) sense. Is there something that we don't know that makes our responses redundant? :confused2:

Good problem to have for once!?! Try lifting weights and building more muscle mass. It's good weight to gain. Or how about adding powdered Protein to your meals, just sprinke it on. It has calories and will build muscle. You can find it at any health/nutrition store.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
