Stop exercising and go play

Recommended Posts

After reviewing the threads in this forum I wanted to throw out what has worked for me. I have lost 60 pounds in my first 100 days of post lap band bliss. I do the proper diet with just a few exceptions a day. I asked my wife if it was ok to really focus on my health/body and would she pick up the load if I worked out 3 days a week. She is a great lady and has done just that. I started at the local YMCA doing 1 hour of cardio and hated it. TV, Ipod reading a book but nothing made the dreadmill any more tolerable. Once I started losing weight my friend at church asked if I wanted to play basketball in the church league and I passed on it since I wasn't ready but asked if I could be the referee. I ran up and down the court and lost the weight. I then starting playing Bball and Volleyball where ever there was a sign up. My rotation is now Sunday night basketball at the Rec center, Saturday sand volleyball and one league night bowling. I burned 1100 calories playing basketball for 2 hours, burned 700 calories speed bowling at lunch and at least that much during volleyball. My point being don't live on a dreadmill get out and meet friends and start living. If you were not a athlete in school then so what make a change. Those that hit goal either developed a new lifestyle or had one that needed a tweak like smaller food portions. If you sit on your butt all day and night except for one hour of cardio then you will most likely get 60% of your goal.

Hi, you are so right. It's not necessary to go to a gym to be fit....some may find it easier though.

I haven't exercised one bit, as far as putting on workout clothing and doing just exercise. I do as you....play.

Congrats on your success!

You're completely right, there's no point exercising if its ALL you do. Incidental stuff is really important too.

I have no trouble at the moment, I have a house to look after, 3 kids, I exercise etc, and I'm on my feet 24/7 and have no problem hiting 20,000 steps a day and more.

I worry that when I go back to work my incidental activity will decrease a lot, its certainly going to be a time I have to make sure I keep maintaining, I can see gaining weight!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
