Do most surgeons schedule the first fill...

Recommended Posts

for about 5-6 weeks post-op? I'm just curious as to whether to expect that, or if it's possible that my surgeon might let it go if I'm still losing weight at that point. :)

Hi Lisa --

My surgeon said at my post op he'd do a fill in a month if I needed one -- if I wasn't losing weight or feeling restricted.

I'm kind of freaked because I have NO restriction right now. As long as I chew like crazy, there's little that I can't eat. Isn't it possible to stretch the pouch??? I'm scared that's happened. Anyway, I'll be needing a fill.

How's your recovery going? If I recall, we were banded at about the same time.

hi ya'll i was banded 8-18 and am scheduled for a fill on 9-15. i have lost 10 lbs since surgery- i had lost 15 but 5 came back as i introduced solids!!! i to have been able to eat anything... i have not pb'd or vomited and dont get chest pressure i just eat chew eat chew and by the time i think GOD I HAVE EATEN ALOT (about 1 1/2 - 2 cups) i quit eating but dont feel full just ashamed:eek:

i dont feel tooo bad i hadnt had any carbs all summer so while i'm *healing* i am eating the carbs to. protien first though!!!

i just got back from the dr and he confirmed that its because the swelling is down, as long as i am not feeling any discomfort that it isnt stretching, the food is just passing through.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
